ok so i havent bought it yet, but this is the laptop im thinking about buying........tell me if you think i should upgrade anything a little bit more, ill be using it for a desktop replacement and i wanna be able to play all games that are out now (like F.E.A.R, or any others), and im tryin to stay at a reasonable price around like 1500 or 1600 w/ the coupons

Inspiron 9300
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
100GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800
for $1436

so what should i update or is that sounding good the way it is??

looks good, I'm assuming that you don't want to open up you laptop and upgrade everthing your self for less.

Perfect -

7200 RPM drives are not worth it
2.0 is the best value on a processor

IMHO

Which screen are you getting? You may want to upgrade to a 7200rpm hard drive for the extra performance. It looks great.

get the cheapest proc and pin mod a 1.6, get the min ram becuase u can just buy a 1gig stick for 65-85 bucks and then u will have 1.25gigs and an extra 30 bucks to buy a lap dance

Looks good to me as for upgradeing to a 7200 rpm Hard Drive I have to disagree there is not much difference between the 5200 RPM & 7200 RPM which I have confirmed this .Being it is the 100 Gig it is very minumal if you were going with a 60 or 80 I would say yes go for it.You mentioned a game like FEAR one thing to consider if you want a desktop replacement the 6800 Ultra with todays newer games is considered a mid range video card. So If you plan on playing the most demanding games out with all the eye cand and at hgh resolutions you should upgrade to the 6800 Ultra or even better the 7800 Go GTX like many 9300 owners have. Because if for some reason you want to run Vista you will want the transparancy feature that the 7800 Go GTX supports as where the 6800 Ultra does not. Just a thought

I'm going to have to say this.. There is a considerable difference in LOADING TIMES between 5400RPM and 7200RPM drives, but it isn't worth it for the price Dell is asking. It won't help overall performance, but loading times WILL be quicker, and who wants to wait for their games to load?

I'd also advise you to get the least amount of RAM possible, as you can get 2 gigs for around $130 from Newegg.

One last thing I'd tell you to go for is the screen with truelife. If you're DEAD SET on a matte finish, then by all means, go for it.. But if you're switching back and forth between the 2, get the truelife. You won't regret it. I was unsure if I was making the right choice spending the money on this instead of the 2ghz CPU, but I'm VERY happy with my decision.

I say get 512MB ram from dell, then spend $140 with shipping to get 2Gigs from newegg... I have the generic trans and it memtested out with no errors. I think you should do the 7800 mod because its pimp. I went for the 7800rmp drive, I like it.

ok sweet...........i might try and do that newegg thing w/ the ram, whats the best deal on there?

Everyone that has a 7200RPM drive loves it. However i wouldn't buy it from dell. Get it from new egg or zipzoomfly...I believe they are down to $130ish for 60gig. You can turn your old drive into external hd with kit if you need extra storage.

I can't tell the difference between my 60GB 7200RPM and 100GB 5400RPM. So I'd spend a little less and get more space.
