ngarza,
what don't you like about the hp? I just bought a compaq for $720.
what i don't like:
-glossy reflective screen.
-poor battery life.
-poor graphics.

what I like:
-price
-dvd burner works well so far.

I'm gonna keep it for about 6 months and then sell for $500. Then Im gonna get an awesome system.

I would go for a Inspiron 6000. I got the one in my sig for $880 with much better components than that Gateway, especially if you're going to be unplugged at all. If you're not in a hurry wait til Dell comes out with some new coupons and get yourself a I6000. I really like mine so far, it's a great balance between performance and price.
