please help on recovering passwords with t43s!!!

Thread Starter
hi guys, im in real trouble here with my t43!

i forgot my supervisor password (bios)! the hard drive and power on passwords are also enabled. fortunately all 3 passwords are the same.

i can access (boot) my computer (windows) because i have the fingerprint feature enabled (thank god), i can also access my bios menu.

SO THE QUESTION!.... does anyone know how i can recover or erase these passwords?

i understand i can send the laptop for repair but it'll be incredibly expensive ($1000) since what they do is replace the motherboard and hard drive for new.

please guys all thoughts are more than welcomed. thank you all in advance!

ps: please take a look at this threat: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic...=118189#118189

Unfortunately I think you will have an easier task of trying to extract the password from your own memory.
I'm not trying to be an ass, and I feel for you. It's my honest effort to help by suggesting that the cost of a hypnotist to help you recover that password would be cheaper than replacing the motherboard.
Your anxiety and stress over this is keeping you from remembering.

They make programs (some free, some pay, some legal, some not) that can crack these kinds of passwords, i think. I had some password issues when I enabled the fingerprint reader w/o a password (and then set a password...oops), and spent a while searching the internet for such programs. I don't know if they have any specifically for your issue, but just seach the web and see what programs you can find.

If you cant remember the supervisor password on a Thinkpad, You're fvcked... its that simple. IBM will tell you this too, there is no way to get around or crack a supervisor password on a Thinkpad...after all, thats what its there for.

the above poster is right, youll have better luck trying to extract that password from memory.

edit: I guess you could do the security chip replacement thing, I mean... what have you got to lose? If you screw up, you need a new board... if you dont do it, you need a new board, so it might be worth a shot? Would be easier and cheaper to get a new non-IBM HDD as well, im sure theyll charge you out the ass for it.

edit2: since you can get into the bios with your fingerprint, cant you just erase the passwords from there?

actually, since you can access all your stuff right now, why don't you just go buy an external harddrive (or even use this opportunity to get a larger notebook harddrive), copy all your files onto the new drive, reformat and reinstall windows, and then put your stuff back on it? you probably have a lot of extra crap on your computer anyway, it might actually be good

i don't know how much this helps but if u really meant $1000, this is cheaper

a lot of companies offer to remove thinkpad passwords for 100 bucks w/o shipping costs. i thought IBM provided the service for $150 but I'm not sure.

good luck!

i hope they make you give them proof of purchase as some yoyo can go jack a dudes thinkpad at the airport and bring it in. then he'll reformat, and change all the numbers, then sell it on ebay for $$$.
