Should 9300 owners Sulk??????

Hi,

I just bought my 9300 with 6800 GO for 1800 USD. Watching INtel and other debuting better hardware and software on the CES and also with Dell launching 9400 - should I be worried that my laptop is already outdated before it has delivered
post #2 of 24
if its not delivered yet, you can still cancel it. Or of course, you could read the forum's piece of mind on the dual core processor, and the shitty 7800 vanilla in the 9400, and be surprised by how much the 9300 outperforms the 9400.

That is the way it goes in the technology world. By the time you buy it, something better/quicker is around the corner.
Sulk all you want, that's the technology game. Something better always comes out tomorrow but it will be a bitter pill for Yonah buyers when the Merom comes out.

I'll keep enjoying my 8200 P4 2.53 & 9300 in the meantime.

It's all about what YOU plan on doing with it. If you actually use the laptop extensively, can you put a dollar amount on the time you spent with it instead of waiting for something better? No, you can't.
And then every once in a while, something nice happens, like finding out you can upgrade to a 7800gtx and a 1.7->2.26 PM for relative peanuts, and blow my former awesome desktop out of the water. Before buying the i9300 I had no idea all of this was possible... and that was just in early November.

NO! Be happy with what you have .. or are receiving soon. The 9300 is a great system and if you need to push it more in the future simply increase the GPU to a 7800GTX if you want.

The 9400 is way overpriced and the CPU is not worth investing in at this time.

All you can do is stay informed and upgrade when you can. My lappy is pretty sweet right now thanks to my 7800 GTX upgrade. I know one day I will be trying to play some game and be like "Dang its that time again"
But until then enjoy the experience. So far this forum has been a great help to me and I hope I can return the favor somehow/someway.

Everybody should have known Yonah is coming out, so there's nothing ot sulk about, plus you can upgrade to the GTX.
Skip Yonah and wait for Merom. But even then, wait until they have been out for a bit so the price drops... Your i9300 will be plenty kickass for the next 18 months....

I just received my 9300 and really am not bothered at all that the 9400 is out. Dual core is useless in most/current applications. The 9400 is also more expensive.

If you play that game, you'll never buy anything at all, and be stuck with an 8088, while you wait for the "perfect time" to upgrade. There is NO "perfect time". Once you buy something, something better always comes out. It happened with me and my desktop (bought an nForce3 Socket 939, then 3 months later, nForce4 + PCI-E came out). It's just the way things work.

nope

I just bought a 9400 fully loaded, and paid $3000 for it...so there's nothing to sulk about since you got a great deal compared to what I got

I actually use my computer for work and do advertising, graphics design, video editing, and media work for clients though, so to me the dual core was worth it - since the improvements that Yonah has directly affect those applications.

If you're just an average computer user or gamer, you probably won't miss the dual core too much. Especially not for 1200 dollars more.

Agreed! I bought my 9300 in August of last year and haven't looked back since. I was impressed with the 6800go vid card and the speed of the system. I now have successfully upgraded the vid card, like many others, to the 7800gtx and this thing is even better than before.

I have dumped quite a lot of money in upgrades but not nearly as much as it would have been if I had decided to get an XPS2 or some other more "up-to-date" system.

Cheer up my friend, the 9300 is a really, really nice computer.

arnprasad , I would look into downgrading your geforce 6800 to the lowest level graphics card and do the 7800 gtx swap everyone on here has done, it will only cost you around 70 dollars more then what you already paid for , and much greater performance that will last.

I went through that same feeling of having "missed the train" when I bought my 9200 at the tail end of its marketed life.
I've since come to the conclusion that most of the people that have cancelled orders to upgrade, or sent their new laptop back for the better one are simply compulsive.
-Or they have too much time on their hands.
I'm content knowing that my "old" 9200 still is well above the "average" laptop. I'm just not wealthy enough to keep upgrading for the sake of "keeping up".
It's fine if you want the best or the latest, as long as you want it for the right reasons. IMO, keeping up with this board is not the right reason.

A good video card doesn't make a good system

I never said it did . The original poster specifically mentioned that he bought the 6800 GO card to which I was stating that he could upgrade it in the future.

i think you paid too much for your 9300. return it and buy another one and get a better deal. when you spend about 500 dollars less for it, you wont feel so bad about buying it.

Well..I got a TV Tuner - 130 quid, 3 year warranty - 250 quid...WUXGA - 75 quid, Backpack - 40 quid.....so the list goes on..I just checked the price of my specs with the 600 of 1899 coupon out there...and seems my config is 2000 dollars now...very difficult to understand the Dell prices. I am from India, currently in England and getting it thru my friend in US - hence I want the 3 year warranty
