Hi all
I wanted to see your opinions about Apple switching to Intel as well as your thoughts on the current apple computers ..... will all the users of current machines be forced to swich to intelMac as there will be no new software for old good PowerPC ?????
Curious about your thoughts

Honestly I have never held and apple computer, or seen it persosnaly, but most oppinions Ive heard are good.

If im not mistaken all new software for the intel macs will also be suported for the older ones. BUt yeah eventualy you will have to switch over to the intels.

I believe most if not all software will be dual-binaries after the release of the Intel Macs. This will probably last for years until the transition is complete to just Intel coding.

ROSETA holds the key for the near future.

it allowes x86 machines to run current macos programs (given SSE3 or SSE2+ software patch). This does come at a 30% peformance price. So in terms of big software titles, i'd expect them to come in both ppc and native x86 flavors, smaller programs that don't need much resources will come in the same form they currently come and will rely on rosetta to run it on the ppc macs. in the longrun however PPC will be phased out completely, just like 16bit computers were in favor of 32 bit, and how 32bit single core will soon be replaced by 64 bit and dual core.
