Good news for F 4000 users and Vista Comp.

Looks as if, for the current versions of Vista, Microsoft actually recommends ATI branded graphics chips and even specifically lists the Acer Ferrari 3400 and 4000 series notebooks as choice, amongst a few others for the current beta builds. Specifically due to the inclusing of a ATI VPU.

The Inquirer

This may be good news when Vista is finally... er... maybe released later this year... ???

Does anyone know if there are going to be any "Release Candidates" of Vista like MSFT did for WinXP? Those were great ways to check out the new OS before it's final release.

thats great news for me since I bought the Ferrari 4002 for the reason of future vista 64 bit compatibility

Ive preferred ATI over nVidia on notebooks anyway, perfect blend of power and speed over Nvidias power hungry cards

Wonder how Microsoft is going to respond to the Intel Mac commercial, Apperently they are unbeliveably upset by the forced to do dull little things commercial, and even Intel is offended, I would LMAO if Microsoft shifted some support to AMD in retaliation.

Anyone have a gander as to why Apple didnt side with AMD to make the rivalries more complete (Intel & Microsoft vs AMD & Apple)?

Actually its not an Intel commercial, it was an Apple commercial and from the reports Intel wasn't too happy with the commercial when they saw it at CES for the first time. I wouldn't put it past Steve Jobs and his bunch to make such claims to begin with anyways. Anyone else remember Apple's claims about having the "first" 64bit retail computer processor to market??? Funny part of that was I had an 64bit opteron system for about a month before any details about the release of the G5 was made... first my A$$ !!!

The choice to use Intel processors was based on the fab capability of Intel and their abilities to deliver reliable quantities processors. Plus I am sure Intel cut them a special deal on pricing.

My question is going to be for Apple is IF they are going to lower their prices to something more comparitive to PC's? Since with intel processors they are going to be essentially just the same as your average desktop PC from HP/Compaq , Dell and the likes except for the very nice OS Apple has.

so are you saying that AMD doesnt have quality/reliable production facilities and couldnt deliver? their processors are already cheaper to begin with and i am sure they would have gotten special pricing for a giant deal like that... i wonder if its just b/c intel released dual core first....

The thing about this article is that Microsoft is stating what they would recommend beta testers use for testing the current builds of Vista.

Currently, it seems, ATI is putting in quite the effort to develop Vista compatible drivers.
It will only be time before nVidia catches up, and I'm sure both companies will have good and stable drivers for the upcoming OS by it's release, or worst case, shortly after.

If I was to wager a guess, I bet most modern systems from the past year or so will probably be able to run Vista just fine. It'll just be a question of how many of the fancy features the system will be able to handle from MSFT's new GUI.

I wouldn't worry about vista. I am quite certain that MS is gona delay the release (as they always do) and then it's going to be completely bugged for the first 6 month or so. So I am counting on seing a usable version of vista in about 1.5 years or so.
