i6000 WSXGA+ Question

It is hard to read about the Inspiron 9300 without reading about screen issues. Does light leakage also affect the Inspiron 6000's WSXGA+ screen or is it only an issue on the 9300? Hate to rehash this topic but I have not been able to find an answer and the search function only seems to work 50% of the time.

Also, how is the case quality of the 6000? I want the Asus Z70Va but I really do not care for the warranty setup (dealer extended warranty rather than manufacturer) and I know the Asus has a quality case. What makes me question the Dell's quality is that my dad has a 5 year old Inspiron and the quality is terrible (keyboard flex, creaking, LCD ripples when touching the lid, etc.).

Again, sorry to ask questions that I am sure have been asked before but like I said, I am having trouble with the search feature.

My WSXGA+ has only minimal light leakage. I only notice it when the screen is completely black, and even then it's only a very small amount.

As for the case quality, my keyboard has no flex, and there's no ripples on the screen when touching the back of the lid.

The screen does seem to creak a little when opening and shutting it, but overall I'm very happy with the build quality.

I think that whole light leakage thing is blown way out of proportion. All notebooks have some. It's the kind of thing that only 1 in 20 people would actually notice on their own, but about 19 out of 20 will get fired up about if someone points it out to them. If there is any, it only really shows up when the screen is full black, like maybe at the beginning of a movie.

I have been blessed (as far as I know) with a screen that has ZERO light leakage and ZERO dead pixels.

So, speaking from my part, I have not had a problem with my WSXGA+

Yep, light leakage is obsessed about way too much. I didn't even notice the little bit my WSXGA+ screen on my i8600 had until I read about all these people suddenly have a massive problem. Granted, some of them were really bad, but some people were just plain whiners.

My advice is don't go looking for it. If you are looking for it, you will likely see a little bit.

What about the case quality of the 6000?

The light leakage problem seems to be a recent phenomenon with the I6000 and many seem to attribute it to the Samsung screens they now ship with the unit. Apparently the LG screens have much less light leakage. However, I agree with the others that this whole light leakage thing is blown way out of proportion. I have been using a WSXGA+ screen for about six months now and it has been great!

As for the case, it’s not the most sturdy thing I have held but it’s not bad. You will hear some minor squeaking and feel some flexing when hold the I6000 in your hands. The major problem with the case is that the lid does not fall flush when closed. It seems slightly uneven and there is a small gap between the rubber stoppers on the lid and the base. That probably explains why the I6000 is generally cheaper than comparable laptops.

I have a Samsung WSXGA screen on my I6000 and I haven't noticed a single bit of light leakage. My case is very sturdy feeling(much better than my old Dell Latitude CPx) and I have moved the LCD around plenty with one hand and the screen has yet to ripple. I had one pixel that popped up that looked like it was dead(it was either blue or white) but it has magically fixed itself. Even if it did stay dead it wouldn't bother me, since on the WSXGA it's so damn small I hardly see it.

Overall, for the price that you can get the I6000(got mine for $880 shipped, look at the specs in my sig) it's a damn good deal. The case isn't as sturdy as it could be, but for the price I think they did a very good job of making it inexpensive without making it cheap. I am very happy with my purchase. If I had a few hundred more to spend I would have gotten the 9300, but my budget was tight($900) and the I6000 does exactly what I want it to do, and it does it well.

My opinion is that with whatever electronics you buy, there is always the potential for something that don't really meet your expectations & "surprisingly" they managed to pass their quality control (or whatever it's called) tests before the item is shipped out.

Anyway, I have to admit that some of the light leakage issues are a bit blown out of proportion. Furthermore, if you really noticed when browsing around this forum, there just seem a lot more posts on the Dell section than any other so maybe that could be the case that some other brands' light leakage issues are not reported here as the ones on the Dell section.

Finally, my advise will be if you can afford (& hopefully get a great deal!!!) what you really like, I'll say just go for it because what (bad experiences) happen to others may not happen to you or vice-versa. You'll just have to hope for good luck (this applies to any computers/electronics)!!!
