Acer Aspire 5000 series bios problem.

Hi,
In acer aspire 5000 series if the quiet boot is enabled that is the diagnostic screen is enabled and not the acer logo and you hold down any key other than F2 just when it starts continously the bios just crashes. I have to remove the battery and cut the power off to make it work again. The power button on the laptop doesn't work to restart.
I think this is a serious problem. This problem is fixed when i boot using the acer logo as it gives beeps and does not crash. Has anyone noticed this problem? I am using the phoenix notebios provided by acer and the version is 3A24 it think. Please help.

Thanks

update to 3A27 as it is the latest version. see if that fixes it.

p.s. you shouldn't need to hold any other key down when booting, it will just fill up the KB buffer.

p.p.s why are you holding down keys when it boots?

p.p.s.s. i can't figure out why you would.

Hi,
Yes I know I should not hold the key down. They have fixed the error in Quiet boot enabled mode that is in the acer logo style booting (It gives a beep when the kb is full). In diagnostic mode it doesn't do anything and just hangs. This I think is harmful to the hardware as it is the bios crashing. The reason is what if my cat sleeps on my keyboard or somebody by mistakeingly presses the wrong key. Should the punishment be so harsh . This is a quality issue. I don't know where to update the bios to 3A27. It asks for the username and password. I don't have any username and password. Please help. I am slightly paranoid about these errors btw.

Where does one find updates to the BIOS and drivers for the Aspire 5000?

I just want to confirm, that all the upgrades listed for the Aspire 3000 are also for the 5000?

I've got a pretty similar problem with my 5652 WLMi...like two times out of three it'll just turn on with a black screen and hang, no beeps or boot progress or anything. I also have to cut off the power before I can restart it, but whether I use the Acer logo screen or the detailed boot info thing doesn't make any difference.

Soo..which BIOS can I use? Acer doesn't even list the 5650 series yet, so I'm guessing there might not be one. Oh well, I'll just call them on Monday.

Edit: Okay, after an incredible five minutes of experimenting I think I fixed mine. Turned off all the performance stuff in the ePerformance Management thing and now it boots just fine.

Edit²: Noooo, it's still doing it. Well, whatever, it's an awesome laptop.
