Worth $290 and 2 weeks wait for 16" in 8890?

Greetings everybody,

I've decided to get an 8890 (since the 5680 is only a couple hundred cheaper equally equipped). Anyway, I'm having a tough time deciding whether to get the 16" UXGA screen or just stick with the 15" UXGA. The difference is $290 and 2-3 weeks wait. Any opinions?

Thanks!
J

A buddy of mine always says, "with laptops, you either want to go as big or as little as possible." Needless to say, i chose the 8890-v w/the 16" UXGA. I'm still waiting, but what the hell, i'm gonna have a bitchin screen.

16" definitely.
You know what they say - SIZE DOES MATTER

Doesnt the 15" UXGA(like in the 5680) have a lower response time though?

actually, i understand that the 15" is actually a better quality screen... thats what i ordered on my 8890... $290 isnt nearly worth another inch (diagonally of course...)

but - to each his own... when the machine is home it'll be hooked up to a 17" crt, so im only going to use the screen when i'm at a lan party or at work...

I am so glad you qualified that remark .

I'd bet most any man would cough (pun intended) up $300 for any extra inch, measured any way you want. His significant other would probably do matching funds to, maybe pay for it all.

Yeah, I didn't realize that the 16 incher didn't have the wide viewing angles like the 15. Now that I've made that decision, though, I'm debating getting the 5680 instead. Doh!

Don't need RAID, never had a TV tuner so i don't know if I'd use one... The price difference is negligible though, so I'm torn. Is the 5680 THAT much more portable? I won't be using battery power much, so I don't know which is better for me. I'll be running CodeWarrior and/or Visual Studio mostly, occasionally Photoshop and 3DSMax (I'm NOT an artist, so those are only secondary), gaming a bit, and standard web surfing. I'm slightly interested in recording stuff (guitar, piano, and vocals, low quality is fine), but I've never done it before - don't know if any of the inputs come into play there... Any advice or opinions are appreciated!

Thanks to all - these forums have been very helpful for me. You guys rock!

I'm not quite sure, but I think that I might not be very decisive. Then again...

Aw heck...sounds like money isn't a problem. Go for it all. The size of your screen in the 8890 will easily make up for any other, uh, deficiencies.

As far as the recording goes, I don't think the 5680 has line-level inputs where the 8890 does. This is playing on my decision between the two... Then again who knows the s/n ratio of the 8890 inputs anyways (i.e., Dell Inspron is much noisier than the IBM T30). Guess a person could go with USB line-level adapters.

If anyone has input on this please speak up as I have very little knowledge on this issue.

Digi Design sells an M Box which is a cheap version of their cheap pro tools setup. i think it costs about $450, and i might consider it in the future

it works via USB
