That should cover the basics of this phenomenal machine. Any questions, feel free to ask.
Let’s start off with the day I received it:
Free 2-day FedEx shipping (Ordered Dec. 30th, but due to New Years received Friday, January 2nd). Free shipping is always perfect.
I first opened the well-packaged box and they individually boxed the notebook itself as well as an additional box for the additional pieces (CD package, AC Adapter, etc).
All I could say after pulling out the laptop was “Wow.” It is a beast of a machine, I’ll let everyone know well in advanced, But keep in mind: It is designed for a desktop replacement. The 16” screen is simply marvelous. I doubt there are many others out there with a quality-grade technology screen that the N5 offers. If anyone is familiar with the quality of that in the predecessor, The N3, You’ll simply be just as amazed with the N5 (I’m trying to find the exact screen model as well as response time and specifications, any assistance as to where I might find this information would be appreciated.)
I plugged the magnificent piece of work in, and fired her up (Yes, I prefer to call it a she). Upon booting, there is one, small (Can’t even see it once windows is loaded) dead green pixel. It won’t be going back, I can assure you! The native resolution is 1400 x 1050, Those scared this is too high, Your wrong: It’s perfect. I’m a normal desktop user that came from a continuous resolution of 1280x1024 and this is even better.
Everything appears to work flawlessly, (Mind you I chose a word because I have yet to install anything, But I assure you more results will come - Just ask me and I’ll gladly do some work with the machine.)
As far as build quality, I was rather impressed with the one’s at Fry’s Electronics (Which were N3’s) and it seemed to get even better (Not to mention prettier!) I’m not noticing any flimsy or bending parts. The keyboard doesn’t creek (except for the space-bar, It is giving a slight squeak - It doesn’t seem like anything to be concerned about however)
As far as sound is concerned, I love the control they designed for switching the volume - it’s a small “turning” dial to increase/decrease the volume. There are two speakers (One on each side of the keyboard), I’ve played the new 311 CD on the DVD Player and it put out some fine tunes for a laptop (I did notice, Generally are laptops not able to boast Bass- I wasn’t able to add any bass - Will look into further)
Heat: I’ve owned one other laptop- An old NEC 233 (Still runs btw) and as far as I’m concerned, It gets about an average rate of heat. The left is where the hard-drive is and that is warm, not scolding, but warm - we’ll see how it goes with more use (and gaming).
The noise: Average work (Word Processing and thumbing through WebPages and the loudest thing I hear is me clicking away at the keys) and I can’t hear anything. But again, That’s simply under light settings, The real test will be more affluent and will include gaming.
Sorry this review is rather lacking at the start, But with some time and patience, maybe I can get you guys a hardcore piece of work
Those are my comments with the first hour of it.
Pictures will be posted as soon as I find the damn charger for the digital camera!
