EX7 Repair Experience...

Thread Starter
Well...my Ex7 finally broke down after many months of flawless performance . I sent back my laptop January 3rd for repair and hopefully they will be able to get it fixed soon.

Yesterday the 9th, I called them and they said they should have an answer on what's wrong with the laptop, and will get back to me on the 10th.

This will be the time to see how good and responsive Hypersonic is in handling repairs. I will keep updating this thread for progress.

My repair ticket is: -----

My problem is described in this thread:

I don't think posting your repair ticket # on a public forum is a good idea...

Fungo:

The technicians are diagnosing your issue and will get back to you regarding an estimate for the repair.
In the future, please feel free to contact repairs@hypersonic-pc.com for updates on the repair of your system.
And remember not to post personal information in the forums, including repair ticket numbers or invoice numbers (You never know what DB might do! j/k)

Pat u afraid seeing the DB Digital Dungeon might turn you to the Dark Side? Don't worry, it has that impact. Why do you think ALienware has NEVER asked me to send in a rig to them. Hell, they ACTUALLY sent me Crisco and Duct tape with my ALX order. Seriously, they did.

DB is probably looking up my info as we speak . Please dont steal the last $15 in my bank account. I need all the money I can get to pay for the (probably)costly repair of my ex7 Anywho, thanks for deleting the repair ticket number. An oversight on my part.

I contacted hypersonic again today (01/12). They said most likely they will have to replace the mobo. The sales rep will call me sometime today for the pricing.

I wonder how much mobo replacement will cost me? I am bracing for the worse.

Hopefully it is not more than the cost would have been to go with the longer warranty. I wonder if there are warranty companies that you can pick up after the fact (like Phillips or so).

Warranties for laptops are like insurance for me. I just don't want to end up with a huge expense when the unexpected occurs. Desktops aren't an issue, but notebooks... man..

Good luck. Your EX7 review was one of the earlier ones I read prior to ordering my EX7 - I definitely feel for you.

Well, if I were to do it all over again, I would have at least gotten the 2 yr warranty.

As it stands now, I got a call from Hypersonic late yesterday. It looks like the mobo conked out on me, just as expected. It will cost around $700 to have the mobo replaced plus shipping it back to me. Looks like I might have to live with peanut butter and jelly for a while.

I am now exploring the possibility of ugrading my system all together. I will be calling Chris at Hypersonic today. Update coming soon...

I talked to Hypersonic last Friday: it looks like I will indeed need a mobo replacement. To upgrade my system w/ new Nvdia 7800 card will cost about $1200.00.

So I chosed to just repair with no upgrade. The total cost for my repair comes up to $729. So to those of you thinking about buying a desktop replacement, I suggest buying at least 2 yrs worth of insurance. This thing is so fragile. I've never brought the laptop anywhere, I've always handle it with care. It was well ventilated when I use it, but somehow it finds way to break exactly after my 1-yr warranty expire. Just my luck.

Will give an update after I receive my comp next week.

I just recently had quite the experience with my EX-7. It seems my system was plagued with the dead motherboard issue. When is Clevo gonna solve this problem? It seems many people with this laptop suffer from this issue and multiple times! Its insane to pay over 4k for a laptop only to discover that the engineering is bunk or that the manufacturer is producing crappy components. Anyway..I digress.

I sent my system in for repair under warranty as it would not boot. This was in late November. After about two weeks of not hearing back I called in to check on my system. I was informed that the graphics card was replaced and memory as they had "blown." Intersting...I can't seem to recall ever having experienced a problem like that before. I was told that my system was being tested and would ship in a couple of days.

Two weeks after not receiving my system of other news I called back. It seems that Hypersonic could not process the shipping costs on my card (I live in Canada so warranty does not cover shipping - which sucks!). Rather than call me and let me know they just waited for me to call them. I suppose that's ok... My shipping charges were eventually paid for and I was told my system would ship in a couple of days.

A week later I still had no system. I called in to see what was going on. It seems my system was being repaired. It now had received a replacement motherboard. What about the graphics card and memory? The tech had no idea what I was talking about. Confused? I know I was!

I called back the next day to see what story I would receive from the technical "support." This time I was actually helped by someone who seemed to have an idea of what was going on. It seemed my system was shipped to California to be worked on at their facility there. Ok. So..they had replaced my motherboard and gotten weird lines on the display after. They then replaced my graphics card..lines still there. They then replaced my screen...lines still there! Another mobo was put in system. Lines finally gone and system was shipped. Last week!

I was excited to receive my system. However, my system is being held by customs because someone in shipping priced it at $1 worth and labelled my system as a "sale item" on the shipping invoice instead of labelling it as "system sent in for warranty repair." I have to call in tomorrow to resolve the issue and hopefully have Hypersonic fax Canadian customs the info so that I can get my system back.

All in all. After paying 4k for a laptop. I am unimpressed. Laptop works great..until it breaks! Then you have to play the waiting game. Maybe it was just slow because of Xmas - I want to believe Hypersonic is a great company, but my recent experience has turned me off of them.

My only concern now is will the problem happen again. Probably..judging from the posts in this form. The motherboard issue is there and is not being resolved. So when my system dies next time what do I do. Have to suffer paying $800 + to fix it. Sad...very sad.

N.

P.S. Sorry for the long post.

Got the laptop back on Wednesday. I noticed that with the new bios (fan changes speed), I am now idling at 50c instead of the fan-always-on bios, which idling at 43-45c. When running intensive apps, the temp would shoot up to 63c, whereas previosly max temp was at 53-55c.

Is this increase in temperature normal with this new bios?
If the new BIOS is the one that I had, you can change the fans to be always on as well by hitting a key combination. Do a search, as I do not remember the keys (like FN+F10 or something). Look before you try as I don't want you to disable wireless or something else.

What the new BIOS did was make the system a bit quieter for those who had problems with the always on noise. I would routinely just leave it as always on by hitting these keys as the noise didn't bother me and I preferred the cooler temps.

Glad it got back to you safely!
