8790 not half as bad as the Repair Co. - Page 2

That's ridiculous. Doesn't even make sense that they'd try to get away with something like that.

It really doesn't, it's not cheap to pay for all of this shipping that they are having to pay for, and even if it was laziness or negligence the last time, I calmly stated that this was unacceptable, and I need to have a working machine, the woman I spoke to on the phone assured me that it would be kept an additional day for testing, the only other possibility is that the ups people f'ed it up by chucking the box, but logically that might explain a disconnected monitor cable, but not a dead mobo.

I'm getting to the point where I just hope they cash me out so I can use the money to build a desktop, and if anything should go wrong with that, well then I can fix the damn thing myself, i've had my laptop for two days since February 15th or so, and these refurbished logic boards seem to be crap if I have indeed gone through two so far, and they haven't just tried to solder on junk to my mobo.

It would however be nice to be able to crack open the thing and check and see if it is indeed a different mobo, if not for the ominous "VOID IF REMOVED" stickers on the screws of the plate underneath the keyboard.

For what it's worth, I loved my 8790 until about the one year mark, and then it started artifacting, and getting worse and worse gradually until even underclocking the core and memory in ATI tool wouldn't relieve the problems, and if I had chosen not to get the extended warranty service, I would be screwed.

Bottom line, if I want Gaming performance, i'm sticking to desktops, laptops are for web browsing and e-mail on the go.

I realize this may be a crazy idea, but since so many of us on here have at one time or another (or still are) having this artificating issue, relating to the way overclocked stock settings on the Radeon 9700, would it be worthwhile to somewhow try to get some kind of concessions from Sager? Especially because I've noticed that people's emails and calls to Sager about this usually get rebuffed, it would seem that maybe we should attempt to take some legal action on the basis that they knowingly sold/are selling defective products? Like I said I realize this may be a stupid plan, but it's just a reaction to the collective frustrations that some of you seem to be having. I know I lost my 8790 for over a month while they shipped it back to China to get the mobo replaced. Any thoughts?

You now that they shipped it to China???

How; Pray tell, do you know that?

I could be wrong here, but when the box I got back had "Air China Cargo" blazoned on it and the shipping label had an airport code that most definitely was not a US airport, I figured that out. Also because they said they "sent to Sager". So maybe it was some other country, but it definitely left the US, wherever Sager is.

Possible that it went back to Clevo in Taiwan, but highly doubtful. My guess is that they used a box that they had received from Clevo holding a barebones unit.

Just a guess, tho'.

Geeezzz - I hope that they don't have one of my old boxes - cause then someone would think that I repaired it........

BTW - Sager is in the US, in the "CIty Of Industies" LA Area, CA....
