I <3 Gentoo. The USE variable makes it easier for you to customize it, so it runs with little to no bloatware (since you decide what you want in it using the USE variable for make.conf).

A few weeks ago I was ready to emerge some dvd players and codecs and whatnot (following a gentoo tutorial), till I popped in a DVD and realized it work. Then I checked my make.conf file and realized +dvd was in my USE variable =]. Easy customization

yeah, gentoo is pretty great.... too bad i don't really have the nerves to go ALL the way through with the post-install setup (i am on ok the install bit of it). Regardless, its my choice to stick with binary distros....for now!

PCLinuxOS has served me well, runs faster than any other KDE/RPM distro i have ever tried (about on par with Mandrake2006...maybe a bit faster). I love Ubuntu...i really do, but the fact that its compiled in i386, among other things...really slaughters the performance. I have a long weekend comming up, I think I amg onna give ubuntu another shot... but will totally rework it from the ground up.
