Not sure if anyone has experienced this. But I noted that with the highest resolution set with a GeForce 6800 makes things looks a bit grainy. Has anyone experienced this?

No graininess here.

Best way to explain it is the same effect if you want the picture to be sharper. The higher you set it, the grainer the icons or picture gets. But the problem is that I get that effect at the lowest level. I guess it must be the LCD.

Is this with movies or in Windows? Do you have any effects or shadowing? What about (can't remember name) where fonts are blurred to make it easier to read? (I find it makes it worse)

Do you have the WUXGA screen?

Is your DPI set to 96?

I'd suggest the same. By "grainy" do you mean pixalated? Make sure your dpi is set to 96 .

Or do you mean grainy on solid backgrounds? Maybe it's what other people are refering to as "sparkles"? I have the WUXGA and on a solid color (especially white) I can see a fine grainy appearance if I look close enough. Kinda hard to describe, almost sort of like a 3D effect.

Welcome to LCD land. I was lucky to get one of the "good" Samsung screens and the whites and grays are grain-central. Fortunately, I still see the grain in Sony and Toshiba UXGAs as well so everyone has it, not just Dell.

my whites and grays are grainy too. whats worse, i also have faint lines going across my lcd. still, its better than my first lcd, a sharp, and my second, another samsung. im thinking i will get my 4th lcd once hte 9400 gets going and they start shipping the wc222 across the board.

does grain=sparkles though?

Well, remember that notebook LCD's are NOT desktop LCD's and even more so they are NOT CRT's. The space constraint definitely hurts production capabilities and I think to make a high quality screen in that compact a form probably costs too much atm

Agreed. We have two Dell 24" LCD (2405)'s at the small office I work at and they look excellent. LCD front projectors also look great (though I prefer DLP in that arena). We're lucky to have 1920x1200 LCDs in our notebooks at all, let alone at these prices (some have gotten their systems with WUXGA for less than $999).
