Hard Drive Issue

Hi

It seems that my 2nd hard drive (80 gig) has failed on my 8890. My machine does not fully boot up. I can boot from CD, but when I proceed to reinstall windows, the machine freezes when it goes to analyze my 2nd hard drive. All my progams are on my 1st primary hard drive so I am thinking can I dissconnet my 2nd hard drive and then boot? How do you dissconnet the hard drive in the 2nd bay (next to DVD-ROM drive)? If I do this can it void my warrenty? I still have about 8 months left.

Thanks

Greg

Hi, It is real easy to remove the 2nd HD from the bay (I don’t think you will void your warrantee as this is a common upgrade item (2nd drive), but check anyway if you are very concerned). With the unit upside down and the front panel towards you (vents to the left, drives to the right), remove the TV tuner cover (middle/upper panel, right of the 2 fans, 3 screws holding it in). Once the panel is removed, there are now 2 more screws visible on the inside right edge. The lower screw (towards the front) is for the CD/DVD and the upper is the one holding the 2nd HD. Just remove the screw and remove the HD unit. It is best to use the back of the screwdriver to push the unit out instead of pulling at it from the front. I have an image for this but don’t know how to post them here. If interested leave contact info and I can send it but it is real easy to do without. HTH!
