Been at it for awhile on what to buy:
AlienWare Area-51 m5500
New Apple MacBook
New Lenovo T60P
I have to admit just basing what I've read in most sections from this website (thank you notebookforums.com), the T60P is looking pretty darn good.
AlienWare:
Known for cutting edge, but up until recently, they are paying the price with their laptops. The m7700 overheats like mad and I've read a large number of threads of it having to be sent back to AW for repairs. Same holds true for the m5500? Don't know. Haven't seen any horror stories on the m5500, yet. But based on the m5500 specs, that baby should do just fine for my gaming addiction. I'm just weary of AW customer support.
MacBook:
One word: sexy. Lots of hardware based "toys", but if I buy that what would I do? Load or dual-boot Windows XP. So why pay the premium for the MacBook just to run Windows for games? Exactly. MacBook is out.
T60P:
Business and work-related laptop? Oh yea, and then some. My gaming addiction? With the new T60P? I would have to say the new specs look extremely promising. Dual-core CPU? /signed Ample HD space? /signed Up to 2GB of 667Mhz DDR2 RAM? /signed ATI Mobility Radeon X1500 (128MB)? Bingo. That should definitely play WoW, EverQuest2, etc. At top settings? Maybe, maybe not. More likely not, but with these new specs Lenovo has stepped up to the plate and brought these laptops closer to being able to game.
Verdict:
Was really aiming at the Alienware m5500, but I'm still really shakey with the stories I've read on AW support. From all the people I know with Thinkpads, their support is top notch and you can't go wrong. T60P is now looking great. I'm just searching for more reviews on the T60P before sealing a deal.
