There's always a new version of VPC or Apple could have included the compatibility support module. Then again, its Microsoft's own fault for keeping their operating systems a couple of years out of date as usual.

Plus, Microsoft never said they won't release a service pack for Windows XP to support EFI.

How would one go about applying a service pack to an OS that won't run on the hardware??

You don't have to "apply" the service pack. You just need to install the version of Windows with the service pack already included. After the service pack is released, retail versions of Windows would already include the service pack. Even if you have an older version this can still be done with slipstreamed installation CDs or disk images.

Microsoft could release a mac version of XP. It would be a great way to get extra revenue, and all it would take is porting the Itanium code to x86 somthing they know they will have to do anyway.

Considering how little the Bios is used past bootup, that may not be as hard as it sounds. The OS nowadays tends to overwrite the BIOS code with its own drivers.
