I Bought a $3,500 Mini-Oven

It's been a little over a year now since I bought my laptop and after running great for a few months, it has gone down hill from there. My laptop has had problems overheating and every time I call Alienware it's always some silly download or test they make me run that does nothing to fix the problem. I paid for 3 yrs of tech support for useless help. The laptop gets so hot that I even burnt my hand while attempting to move it. I think that alone is good enough for a lawsuit, but I am going to try to contact them once more and see what happens ...

Anyone who's been in this same situation ... Did you ever have your issue resolved? Any suggestions?

Sorry but I just felt like I had to vent my anger about my experience thus far with AW.

Have you used compressed air and open it up to cleam some dust out ? It is amazing how much can build up. One guy reported a ten degree drop after removing a big carpet of fluff from one of the compartments ...

If you take the time to work with technical support they may locate the cause of the trouble and save you the time it takes to send the system in for diagnostics. Just having trouble with your system is going to cause frustration, anything after that fact just adds to it. venting is fine but keep us updated how things turn out.

...and Olli has an excellent suggestion for all system owners.

You might also use a cooler....most of the 7700 owners have gone to the lapcool4, it works very well.....I would definately clean the fans and do so on a regular basis, you would be amazed at what you will find getting blown around in there....look at the filter on your furnace when you change it.....you do change it, right?....my point is that all those small particles of dust etc do add up and can block the fan exhaust thus you run much hotter....amd the cooler will make a world of difference....Lapcool4, it is around $50, but worth every cent as it was made for the 17" computer and the fan placement is perfect for the 7700....hope this works out for you......I seriously doubt you have any basis for a lawsuit, so don't waste any time thinking about that aspect

I agree with Olli...it sounds like the machine is clogged with dust and not breathing correctly. These things don't just one day suddenly happen for no reason. Grab some canned compressed air and give it a thorough cleaning.

I did the same and my machine runs cooler, quieter and problem free...Also a year old here, BOY does this machine need maintenance...But you look after it and it will look after you...

Hope you get this sorted....

Hold your hands at the two exhaust ports if you can feel air comming out at a good pace when you hit Fn-F2 key which will put the fans on 100% then your air flow is optimal. If you dont get a nice flow of air, then they need to be looked at for cleaning. If you have had your lappy for a year and dont realize that you need a lap cool youve either never had a lappy before or you never paid attention to the heat. If you say you burned yourself, then You definitly need to open her up and get a lapcool 4. Its 50 buck to prevent a 3500 dollar death. Alienwares are by far the most amazing comps on the market but they also run the hottest. Its give and take.
