I have a Sony PCG-GRX670 which I bought just over a year ago. It's out of warranty now and the LCD (16.1" UXGA) has begun to flicker and go almost completely black every few seconds. I have to push the "lid closed" switch with a paper clip to get the display back It's probaby the backlight going out. It gets better if I turn the brightness down a couple notches, but I like a bright screen to ease eye strain. The funny thing is that this started after I removed some Adobe software and the Adobe Gamma Loader which is in the Startup folder, but putting the gamma loader back doesn't help. I'm still trying to remove any possibility of software issues causing this before I bite the bullet and send the whole notebook to San Diego for repairs. I'm pretty sure it's the hardware since it flickers some while booting up.
First question:
Can someone tell me how to find out exactly which model of LCD I have?
XP just lists it as "default monitor" with no model number... and there's no info relating to it in the Sony documentation that came in the box. I want to make sure I have the correct drivers installed for it. I assume it's a Hitachi (aka Sager 8887), judging by other threads posted here, but I'm not sure.
Second question:
I bought a Sony external LCD last night to hook up to the notebook while the primary is on the blink (literally). However, XP won't let me make the external monitor the primary instead of secondary, since the Primary option is greyed out in the Display control panel for the second monitor. Is this only possible through BIOS settings?
