Nvidia GO 7800 GTX Graphics disappointment.

I just recently got my Sager 9750. It's specs are 4200+, 2GB Ram, 100GB 7200rpm, 256mb Nvidia 7800 gtx. I must say I'm very disappointed with the graphics capability. My main reason for getting this high end lap top was to be able to play games such as BF2 and others and be able to really max out some of the settings. I tried to set the graphics to high on a 800x600 resolution on BF2 only to experience major frame skipping, and slow play. They market the 7800GTX as the same as the desktop card. The desktop card can run this game with those settings and even set the resolution higher and it breezes threw! However, this card does not. I also have less graphic demanding games that also have the same problem and with this kind of setup I don't see why that is. I also tried to download the latest driver for the card from Nvidia but everytime I tried to install it I get some kind of message stating the folder can't be found? Does anyone know why this card is so laggy?? If I wanted this kind of performance I would of just stuck with my Dell 8200 and its 64mb ATI 9000 series card. It's 6 years old and plays just as good.

You should really poke around the 9750 threads before starting a negative one like this. I run at 1600x1200 full detail with no issues.

If you looked around for a few minutes you'd also notice that it's quite easy to install the newest nvidia drivers on these machines.

I don't want to spoil your fun, so I won't give away the ending.

the performance is indeed equal to the desktop part. there must be some trouble with your drivers or something. do you have aa and af enabled in the control panel?

Not Sure

Well I'm not that technically inclined when it comes to computers. In other words I turn it on and hope it works. That is my reason for finding and posting in this forum. In the previous question I'm unsure what you are referring to when you say is aa and af enabled. If you could be more descriptive for a dummy like me I'm sure I could figure it out. As far as installing the new Nvidia drivers how do you know what your current driver is?
just install new drivers that should help you. forget what i said before. take the drivers from nvidia.com there are special ones for the go gtx

Look in your control panel>display>7800 GTX tab. Your default driver should be 79.xx. The latest one is 82.12. Regardless you should not have issues running bf2 with thre 79.xx driver. Replacing the driver is relatively easy, look at the recent thread and get your driver from laptopvideotogo.

I've had my 9750 for 3 1/2 days now and it RAWKS. 3dmark05 o/c is 7756 which is mind blowing compared the the 6800U....

Be patient.

Are you playing on battery or A/C? I noticed on my 9750 that FryCry is very choppy on battery power with settings maxed. When I plug switch to a/c and restart the game it plays great. I've got my power settings set to "always on". This does not seem right so I may contact Sager about a new battery.

Yes, I always use the AC adapter when playing games. The only time I use the battery is when surfing the net. I finally got the newest driver to install I think. I am still having choppyness when I play BF2 with 800x600 resolution on settings at high. Could this be a hardware issue?? Or is it software settings?? I've tried other settings and resolutions. They all give me the same problems except when settings are on low.

Run the 3Dmark05, you should be scorching it up to 6990 using 82.12....if its low then you have an issue with the gpu....

You should try upping the resolution to the ones others are useing because you are not useing native your results will not be all that great and also you should at least look for a wide screen rez. After that you can look at the game settings . I am guessing you set everything at its highest and went from there. sometimes the Anti Aliasing needs tlo be in other settings to eek out the best preformance. If this still doesnt work we can set you up a new user for gaming in windows that will turn off all other apps that could be sucking your performance but I do not believe that is your problem

Just my own 2 cents. I am running a Hypersonic CX7 laptop (same as Sager 5720) with the 7800GTX installed and it runs all games fully maxed out with 4 x AA and 8 x AF at high frame rates with no skipping or any lag whatsoever. I am running at 1680x1050 widescreen without a hitch. I set BF2 to this custom resoution by editing the command line to allow for that resolution and it plays like a dream. I would check your drivers or hardware. I do know that if on battery your GPU's power throttling will over ride your normal AC settings and you will not got any where near good frame rates in 3d games. For example if I load Counter-Strike: Source while on A/C it runs at 129 frames per second even in a firefight and with the battery going I only get 39 frames per second and it is skippy. Best of luck to you.

You say run 3Dmark05. Now I don't know that much about computers but I'm guessing that is to test the graphics card output? Could you please tell me how to do that. Also, yes I have tried all the resolution settings on high and get the same results. I will try playing with each of the settings. Thanks for all the help.

3dmark05, download it from guru-3d, install it and then just run it. simple.

To download 3DMark '05 (290MB) go to...

http://downloads.planetmirror.com/pu..._installer.exe

Once downloaded just run the self-extracting executable to install the program, run the program from the start menu or the desktop shortcut. It gives you options for the benchmark - leave everything as default and run the benchmark.

You should score over 6500 3DMarks at the end, with overclocking you should be able to get up to 7700 (I can step you through overclocking if you want). See how you go and let me know what score you get.

Are you playing with it pluged or unpluged?
Hey Aussie did you purchase from PCTORQUE?

Also check to see what that your CPU is running full speed. A lot of people who have recieved their 9750's noticed even when running with the Laptop plugged in their CPU was not running full speed because of the power management feature. Could also be affecting the GPU as well. The cool and quiet feature will turn down the CPU freq.

New video drivers should never be installed on top of old. I'd start by downloading Driver cleaner Pro, run the tool in safe mode. Reboot and reiinstall your drivers before running your 3DMark test.

3D Benchmark05 Marks

I have downloaded and ran 3DBenchmark05 like everyone is telling me to do. I was asked to post the scores and here is what it says:
Game Test 3D Mark Score: 6687
GT1- Return to Proxycon: 28.5 fps
GT2- Firefly Forest: 20.4 fps
GT3- Canyon Flight: 33.0 fps

CPU Tests CPU Score: 4764
CPU Test 1: 2.4 fps
CPU Test 2: 4.2 fps

I hope everyone who told me to run this knows what these numbers mean? I tried messing with the settings on BF2 some more and still can not run the game without skipping. I have tried online, single player, etc. No matter what I get skipping and lagging. The only way it runs smooth is at low settings. It will run great at any res. as long as it is on low. Medium and High no matter the res. creates the same skipping and laggy problems. I don't get it Any more suggestions would be great! If these numbers help out the guys who told me to run that program mean anything let me know. A big Thanks!!!!!
