Never buying an alienware again

why? i love my computer, it is amazing, but the fact that alienware stops supporting its products right after it discontinues it is unacceptable. I broke the charger on my Area 51 (766) only a few months more then a year old, and i called alienware to see if i could get a new one, what response did i get??? NO, they dont carry it anymore and i would have to contact the manufacturer well i did and the guy that picked up is a ditz and has no idea what i want, so im pretty much out of luck

anybody got an extra charger theyd be willing to next day ship me??? pm me for money

Are you within your warranty? If so then AW have to support it.. no choice

If your not then A) if its under a year old you shouldnt have skimped on the warranty and B) As it is a discontinued line AW are probably keeping all there stock for that machine for ppl who DO have a valid warranty...

no i only have phone warrenty at this point, but the point is i dont even have the option of buying one from alienware, because they dont have any

It could be worse. You could send your computer in for warranty work and upgrades, they could do the upgrades and charge you for it and then send back the computer without doing the warranty work and accuse you of lying. Or they could hang up multiple times on you because you have a warranty claim and they don't want to deal with it. And then when they do talk to you they verbally abuse you over the phone or change their dialect and pretend they don't speak english.
You've had it easy.

Have you tried eBay?

its the fact that iv had it so easy that makes me so angry, they should keep extra chargers around so that customers who might say break one or want another one for travel can get one, its just good practice

yah i have tried ebay no luck

Ray, I think I found one, this is the Uniwill outlet store:

http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-7265593087285/25acad.html

I have doublechecked with the number found on my charger, I have a 766 as well as my sig shows...someone in this forum recommended that store and thank God I bookmarked it
However, this is more than poor customer service...I have almost the same rig as you and I'm in the same boat...I went with a 1 year warranty and can only hope my GPU (and the rest) survives long enough or I'll be f***ed. This machine is still excellent and the service within warranty time was great, but after having spent a fortune I can't realize these guys don't even speak to you anymore and you're treated like you're third class.
Good luck, I guess you're done

Glad to be of service However, full props to the person (that I can't remember) who pointed out the Uniwill store here. Feel free though to relieve me from my nOOb status
I think for us 766 users it might also be a good idea to buy a spare battery in time, what do you think? There is still one on the US AW site, but not on the European ones...looks like I have to pay customs duty then

Awesome find. It looks like they have the video cards on that site as well.

Tyrell 2019, did you overclock your 9700 to get that 3DMark score?

Tyrell: you have been paid in REP for your good work.
Hi guys, thanks for the nice feedback and comments! Reputation has been given back !
To answer your question about the 3Dmark03 score Ron, no, I didn't do any overclocking and even set the card back to 4x AGP instead of 8x as the machine was frequently crashing before when running the latest games. No idea if this influences the score. What I did was updating to the latest Omega drivers, doing a bit of XP tweaking and also running a program called Game Tuner. That was free with a computer mag here in Germany. I guess this also did a bit of tweaking like shutting off unnecessary system routines etc. Before all that , the score was maybe 200 points or so lower.
I wasn't aware of it being a good score, is yours much lower? At any rate, I didn't do that much tweaking and it's not a scary configuration here. Sorry for hijacking the thread btw!
Cheers guys!

Sorry, I can't see any video cards in the Uniwill shop. Is it just me or where is that 9700? And, the ones you found, are they the Alienware variety ?? Thanks! Frank

This link has made me very uneasy regarding my future purchase (which will be in about 2 weeks). I have 3 kids who love to play with my computer equipment. I always count on my computer giving me at least 3 years. Are you guys saying not to expect that in a new laptop?

Strange, they took down all the video cards. They had everything but the quadro listed.

You should expect three years at least, I'd get the three year warranty to be sure.

These stories about AW lying and saying they don't speak english are absurd, if in fact that story was about AW.

That is 100% true. I swear to god. I couldn't make up half the stuff they have done to me if I tried.
...Claiming their phone wasn't working and they could not hear me half way through a conversation, saying they couldn't understand me and slowly altering their dialect through the conversation to almost completely spanish, hanging up on me multiple times when claiming to transfer me to a manager.
I won't even get into them attempting to weasel around warranty work.
The best though was one of the low end sales people telling me some of them work from home and get payed for the total hours they have customer calls (I could hear her children in the background). This would be the reason for some of this behavior.
You can decide not to believe it, but it does not change the fact that these events are very real and has not only happened to me personally but two other friends I referred to Alienware to buy machines.
I am not in here to start a bashing campaign. I was not intending to post more than my original post and I likely should not have posted that as all it was going to do is rub the ego's of some of the Alienware fans in here, which apparently it has.
Although I still have some outstanding issues, in the end, I ultimately beat Alienware as they realized all of the extensive documentation I had to support my issues.
I am sure there are those of you out there that have had positive experiences with them. But understand that they are capable of seriously wronging their customers and have done so to quite a few.

I actually have had them tell me they couldn't hear me also.

edit: probably just someone's screwed up headset tho
