Mac Os X

Hi,

When will I be able to purchase OS X for my current non MAC PC/Notebook without a hack from the apple store, a true intel/AMD compatiable OS X? Would love to get rid of windows finally and run with MAC OS X. Thanks in advance for everyones response.

I don't think Apple will release a version for PC(IBM PC Compatible) users. Steve Jobs didn't announce it or say anything regarding an OSX that is designed for PC(IBM PC Compatible) users.

So

In the near future-I doubt it
In the future-maybe

well, from a hardware standpoint there's no difference at the hardware level now between Macs (of the intel variety) and PCs, they're both using x86 CPUs. the code for OS X would basically run on current AMD/Intel chips if there weren't limitations in the OS that will restrict it to Apple's hardware setup (i.e.-certain identifiers in the EFI, the next gen of "BIOS" for computers).

that said, no, there aren't any plans (currently) to provide non-Apple notebooks or desktops w/ OS X. u have to buy a mac to get it. well that or know where to find hacked software.

just because there is no "official" version....doesn't mean you still can't go to the apple store, buy the DVD, and then "play around" with it to get it running.

That said, if you're trying to get away from Windows....give linux a shot!

You won't be seeing the Intel DVD until 10.5 is out.

So 10.4.4 is only available as an update then.

It'll eventually be shipped on new copies of the PowerPC versions.
