Letting the system work while your not working.

Quick question:

I close my case and put that foamy sheet between the lcd and the keyboard whenever I'm downloading a large file and/or don't feel like putting the system in hibernation or standby.

Does this hurt the computer due to the heat that escapes through theintake vents located around where the power buttons are?

Or am I just being paranoid?

I would NEVER cover the intake holes with ANYTHING while the laptop is running.

But that's just the thing, they're not intake are they? The 15" version has speakers there instead of a vent.

The intake and outtakes on the sides and below are never covered.

No,
The 15.4 has speakers ON the lcd...the vents are on the keyboard base on both screen sizes.

But is it harmful with the other outakes and intakes working?

I've yet to read anything from Alienware that says "If the computer is on and you close the screen your risking blah blah."

I did this last night and when i got up this morning the main outake fan on the rear was barely warm given that the computer was using virtually no resources.

Well it probablly isn't going to kill your lappy but it's not a risk I'd be willing to take. It's upto you man.

This is the fist notebook computer that's given me pause to performing a simple action I've always done with previous systems.

i would recommend against it as such systems like alienware, sager, etc release a good amoutn of heat through the keyboard and vents.

so if you cover your keyboard up while it's running *and* put that foamy thing in between you're making your laptop hotter then it would be if you just left your lid up.

Why not just leave the screen up anyway? Is it messing up your pheng-schway? Does it clash in the room? I can't even imagine a reason for closing ever if it's on.

" Is it messing up your pheng-schway?"

Yes.

I've always kept the darn screen closed to avoid dust and wear on the LCD!

It's just not proper to leave the screen up when not in use. Like a toliet seat.

please dont tell me you put your laptop on the same importance level as your toilet

Wear? Are you high? As if a carbon based object wears more closed then open. I suppose your going to say that a chemical/electrical lcd didplay is going to fade faster then they three year obsilencence of the laptop.

Take a chance, risk it! Leave it open and see what happens, then write a review and post it. As for my AW it's open 20+ hours a day and going strong!
