Like little blue or red light coming through? I'd buy a laptop for that feature alone.

So I just got a Lenovo Yoga 13. This is my review. As what I primarily do is writing and programming, having a good keyboard is critical for me, which is why a tablet alone can’t work for me, and...

I have this memory installed in my Inspiron 14R. 6gb (one 2gb & one 4gb). Great performance! I highly recommend Kingston.

A startup out of Russia will be offering an OLED keyboard. Every key has a dot matrix OLED which can be custom configured. Article with photos from CES on Engadget.

Check out the new core duo laptops in here:
http://www.macnn.com/articles/06/01/...tel.notebooks/
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/
Be careful though: the reality behind the real possibities of installing windows XP on the new Apple Core duo laptop are still fuzzy (even if I really believe there won't be any problem at all, you might have to face some issues with special hardware being not recognized... the backlit keyb being one of them... but that depends on how much of the keyb-light sensor interaction is software driven).
In the end you might end up with a laptop with those features, but being unable to exploit them outside macosx. Still, as I stated first, I don't know any other name with a backlit keyb in the lappy business...

i am sure the oled keyboards will transfer to laptops within a year of their desktop release. that would be juicy.
as for regular under-lit keyboards, wasn't there some Asus or Acer (or was it Sager) owner who modified his lappy with a lit keyboard? But later removed it because it sucked way too much.
i think its a novelty feature, you don't really need it. light produced by the LCD is adiquate to light up the keyboard in dark rooms, on top of that you should ahve the keyboard memorized anyway...thus having no point of you having to look atht keyboard at any given time.

Internal - Apple is the only one I know of mainstream and it has an ambient light sensor to ramp up the brightness as needed.
External - Saitek has a sweet black keyboard with blue LED backlights. On mine the ASDW keys are getting a bit fuzzy from extreme use, the silver coating is wearing off and at night the light shines through as a blue blob instead of a letter. I know where aswd are though =)
