According to Anandtech, the FX-60 is the LAST Socket 939 cpu released...

I mean, we *just* got the 9750 and the 939 is on its way out thru the window.
Actually, S939 will live on for quite some time, in the form of 1xx Opterons, which have switched from S940 to S939 this past summer. And these chips will be produced for another couple of years, and should scale up with the rest of the group.

Will 9750 owners who have a slower chip be able to do a self upgrade to the fx60 in the future (like, when its avaialbe at a reasonable price )?? Or do they have to send it into sager for the upgrade?

Physically its very possible (And, as most will tell you, easy) to upgrade your own CPU. The only real reasons why you wouldn't are a) self-confidence/experience b) potentially voiding a warantee.

Thanks ZGold. I've been building PC's since the late 80s and have changed lots of CPUs =) What I ment by asking if the CPU was upgradable int he 9750 was this:

Is the CPU soldiered into the socket like most traditional notebooks, or is it an actuall standard socket939 /w a leaver and the whole 9 yards? Such that one could just pop out the old, plug in the new?

I understand the warranty issues, but I dont think I would upgrade until my warranty was expired or I was satisfied in thinking that I would not have to use it for a CPU-related issue unless I were to dig my own grave, per say. Part of the appeal of this system is that its not one I have to buy now, use until its awfully outdated, then start over with a new system. I can upgrade along the way......unless I am mistaken. Thanks again!

What do you think this is? Dell? :-). I havn't heard of any PCT/Sager/Clevo/MSI/Asus/Acer laptops having soldered CPUs.

Was there a change in the mobo? Or if someone wants to upgrade to the FX just a bios update? I'm sure others would like to know as well.

Just a BIOS update to allow the use of the FX 60.

So the next obvious question is whether this BIOS update will be made available for the X2 people who plan on the CPU upgrade later ? Assuming that the BIOS update will work for X2 and FX and not exclusively for the FX...
