Travelmate 8200 available for pre-order

It seems that the 8200 is now available for pre-order from a few retailers.

The current best price is here (thanks to JB510).

http://www.bytewizecomputers.com/pro...9/42/403/11736

And they will ship to the U.S.

If you want a U.S. retailer then the best price seems to be here.

http://www.pcsuperstore.com/products...XTAX06034.html

One hint on searching for best price for this laptop. Don't just search for Travelmate 8200 or TM8204WLMi, also search under the Acer part number LX.TAX06.034.

Beware that some retailers is going above the $2499 MSRP to cash in on the initial rush. Then again be careful if you see a deal that's too good to be true as it's probably is . Have fun and good hunting everyone.

Just an FYI the acer 8200 is also available at Canadasys for preorder 2400$ Canadian.

guys i suggest you all wait for G2P and Proportable, C9tech and ISTNC and others to get em and post about it, and buy from them, do not import these things it will just be more of a hassle and may cost more.

All in all wait 2 weeks!! 14 days!! LOL

Thanks,

I just preordered from buy.com for 2350 w/ 2nd day shipping.

I looked at pcsuperstore, and it was fine...but I can save 35 going through a bigger company (whom I trust more).

the bytewize was 35 bucks for 18 day shipping. Saving $100 isn't worth an additional 2+ weeks, especially if I'm giving up the luxury of my dual Opteron 254/4gb/7800GTX powerhouse for this laptop.

(for those who consider me crazy for giving up this much power...I'm tired of the bleeding edge towers. I'd planned on stripping my system down to run it as a file server, but even a dual opteron 246 w/ 4gb of RAM is EXCESSIVE for file server duties. I've been happy with laptops for a long time, and now that they're comparable to towers for my needs....to hell with the big space wasters.)

Cool, looks like more and more retailer is listing it for pre-order so lets the price war begin ;-). The Buy.com price is pretty good except for those living in California. Beware that whatever they say re stock. There are only 10 8204 in the U.S at this moment and they are all review units/ engineering samples. Production units will not arrive for at least another 10 days.

I ordered mine from PCNation for $2331.31 (no tax & no shipping). Sales rep told me that Acer expects to deliver it to them on Jan 28.
Does anyone know why some of these stores (like PCNation) who are located in places other than California are still charging sales tax to California residents? It's really annoying because I'm interested in purchasing one of these but I really don't feel like paying an extra $200-300 for it.
They have to charge sales tax if they have (conduct) a physical location in the state of delivery. They probably have a distribution warehouse, or sort facility, or even an admin office located in CA. It sucks, but that forces them to have to charge the tax.

I ordered from PCNation and live in CA but did not have to pay sales tax. During the order process, there is an option to pay a $14 handling fee and have them ship it to you from a warehouse outside CA so they dont have to charge you tax.

Wonder how much trouble canada will be

The Bytewize computers link is located in Canada.

That's quite slow compared to here in Asia. I am using a 8204WLMi now, which I bought on the 9th. I am in Singapore btw.

Thanks for the info!

And thanks to the other person who responded about the sales tax question. I was aware of this, but it seemed odd to me that two companies I randomly chose (located in IL and PA) both charged tax to their own states plus California. I wondered if there was something else I was missing.

But anyways, thanks again!

They ain't gonna sell many 8202's at the same price as the 8204... The price for the 8202 is right, the price for the 8204 is a nice large 1509 + VAT

Does anyone know the date of the US release (i.e., when will pre-orders start shipping)?

Thanks!
