Question about hard drives.

I recently got a xpsm140. 2gb memory. PM2.13 processor.

question is, Since i only got an 80gig 5400rpm HD... How hard is it to upgrade to a 7200rpm, and what do you recommend that i put in it?

depends how much money you have to burn. the one in my sig is nice

Yeah you just need to buy a 2.5" 7200RPM Drive. Sizes from 60-100Gb.

then you can sell off the 80Gb 5.4k drive and get back some money

trust me, the 7200 drives are not worth the 150$ right now.

i say put a 7k60 in your laptop and buy an usb external case for the 80gb and use it as your back-up drive... that's what i did on my i6000d

How much weight will 100gig 7200RPM add compared to the 80gig 5400?

Nothing that would be noticeable. I plan to upgrade to a 7200RPM drive, possibly next summer. I want some bigger sizes to come out, or the 120GB drives to come down in price.

i had a 7k100 80gb 7200 hitachi for about 3 days before it went back to newegg. the drive didnt perform any better at a lot of things. i mainly wanted something that would make dvd encoding faster. turns out the 5400 drive i have was 3 min faster, odd. even in the benchmarks, the 7k100 was not worth the troubles.

i sent it back to newegg, and checked the next day to see they dont sell them anymore....i thought, HMMMM

not worth the loot in my opinion. laptop drives are all real slow to me anyways, wish they made those faster. i honestly think thats all thats holding laptops back in performance these days is the HD's

DVD Encoding is based on the CPU and not the HD?

Well i really like my drive, quick, slightly noisy. no noticible battery life loss
