CancerKiller's Baby update thread...

Just a quick update...

We spoke to the pediatric neurologist tonite and he has explained that Dean's brain injury is several small focal points in several areas of his brain. The injury occured due to a stop in the blood flow to those points. If this had happened 5 yrs ago then he would never have been able to see with the tests available and therefore we'd be lost as to what is happening. The good news is that he has a fighting chance. The next week or so will tell us how things are going. He needs to wake up without seizures and be able to do the normal baby stuff such as opening his eyes, moving limbs and head, and eating from a bottle to be on his way to a full recovery. If by the end of two weeks of his life he cannot do certain things then there is permenant brain damage and we'll have to treat it becomes apparent. At this point modern medicine can tell us what is wrong, but not how to fix it. We just have to wait and pray.

My wife is doing better, but it is still very hard for her. I am feeling better than I have in a while since there is still hope for him to make a good recovery. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. I will post more when I have more news.

Wow CK, I'm so sorry that this had happened to your son. I would never give up though as no matter what the outcome, he'll always be loved by the ones he loves the most. I'll be pulling for Dean, your wife, and yourself.

CK,

I must have missed everything leading up to this point, this is the first post I saw regarding your son. I'm so sorry to hear about this. The only thought I have at the moment is how incredible the human body is at early stage development so there's always reason for optimism.

My wife and I both send our best thoughts and wishes to your family.

CK....those Neonatal and Neurology guys are real experts and they know what their doing....also they see this kind of thing and know how to treat it....I am sure they have told you all the possibilities but remember, you have all of us praying for him and I do have faith in the science of medicine...try to stay positive....this will all work out.....I know this wait will seem like forever but babies have these amazing abilities to rebound from this kind of stuff without a problem....please keep us posted...

Sorry about the abruptness of this thread. I posted about the pending delivery in the repping thread in AW-General and then the inital NICU visit. Instead of mucking up that thread I thought I'd start a new one.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Dean is doing better. Baby steps in recovery - pun intended. He is moving more and has good muscle tone which the docs like to see. He still needs to be reminded to breath but the reminders are not as intense. Now a pat on the butt and a little rub on the back get him going instead of bagging (essentially breathing for him) like at the beginning. Things are encouraging and my wife and I get excited everytime he does anything but only time will tell.
