Next Generation Dell Inspiron?

Thread Starter
Anyone knows when are the new generation of Dell Inspirons coming out and if there is a possibility of an upgraded version of the 700m with a sonoma or core duo chip?(because the 710m is just a cosmetic upgrade).

Thanks

sometime this year

Inspiron 9400 is already on the DELL Small Business website. Why a small business person would need a STANDARD GeForce Go 7800 is beyond me. And yeah, they have the Duo in them, for 1999.

Expect they are going to upgrade most the line to the Duo's sometime between now and March, doesn't look like there will be any significant makeover. Slightly faster procs and buses.

I really like the look of the Inspiton 700m. One of my friends has one, and so does a co-worker. MUCH more usabled as a "laptop" than the I9300! I was thinking of getting one in addition to my I9300 for that reason. BUT, I don't wanna get "burned" and get the old technology that is in them right now. Anyone got any inside info on when the core duo version might be out?

thanks

The 700m could hardly be called "much more usable" than an inspiron 9300.
The 700m is smaller yes, but its also much less powerful and confined to dedicated graphics and a rather small, inefficient keyboard, if you like the 700m you might want to look at the xps m140 which is also small and integrated graphics but with a much better keyboard.
I dont think there are any cosmetic changes coming this year, dual cores it seems will be placed in the chassis currently being used by dell. Many people seem to find ultra portable laptops to be insatiably cute but there is always a trade off in capabilities for that "cute" small size.

You should never buy a laptop or cel phone based on its "looks".
Doing so will only be cause for regret down the road when you find the capabilities dont match the "look"

You are SO correct. Which is why I did not "Jump on one" when the last $750 off coupon came out. I was thinking maybe a core dual model will be out soon with a real video card. Even an X300 would be "ok". I hate integrated graphics all together. I guess putting an X700 in would be a bit much for an ultra portable? That would still be usable as the screen is just 1280 x 800.

I agree to a point, but I've also been burned the other way. I've bought for performance and ended up with a beast that was just too much of a hassle to lug around and couldn't really be opened comfortably on a plane. As with everything in life, you must find the compromise that fits your particular needs best.

If I was strictly a business traveler, I'd be hard pressed not to get a 710. If I was strictly an at home user who occasionally took it out of the house, then I'd go 9400. I think the 630m is a good compromise. But I'd really like a nicer 6000 that weighs about 5 pounds.
