Accidently Lost the Hard Drive Adapter when upgrading my 9300 to a new hard drive

Cheap people such as myself might have tried this. I bought my 9300 with a standard 40gb drive to save money as their upgrade prices were way too expensive at the time. So I bought a ATA-6 Seagate Momentus 100gb drive instead.

I had some personal things going on at the time and in my rush I removed the old hard drive and sold it before hooking up the new Seagate and testing it out. Well, I was sent to military training starting immediately after that and so had no chance to test it. Five months later, I have my laptop again and the hard drive is not recognized. AFter much aggravation and swearing I've learned that their is a special proprietary pin adapter that lets the hard drive make a connection with the EIDE socket on the motherboard.

That adapter is long gone now and I am stuck with no working computer as the spring semester of business has begun. I need to get one of these as quickly as possible. If anyone can help me, it is very much appreciated!

Just email Dell and ask if they could ship one out to you. There are also drive trays on ebay for like 7.00 bucks which include the adapter.

Ohh.. when you email Dell just tell them that when you took the drive out the adapter came off the drive in 2 pieces and if they could ship a replacement out to you. Should receive it in day or 2.

The day is saved! Thanks for the info, I was getting ready to whip out the credit card and buy a "special" Dell hard drive to get the adapter. Do you recommend calling Dell Spare Parts or just Tech Support to get the adapter?

Found one of those caddys one parts people too: http://www.parts-people.com/index.ph...29&prevstart=0

Just in case anyone else runs into the same problem

Spare Parts will likely charge you for it. Technical Support should just ship you a replacement.

Aye, I have had my share of poor experiences with Dell TS/CS/etc, basically anything where you have to call them and speak to a person. I'll still give it a try to save a few bucks though.

I'll repeat. Aggravating yourself by calling those stupid, ill trained mfers is not worth the $18 it just cost me to order it. Thanks for the link to partspeople.
If you need the money that bad sell some blood lol its not as detrimental as getting caught up in the 10 transferred phone calls from those fools..

I said email them! Follow This Link, enter your Service Tag number and submit. Fill out the form and submit that. Should hear back within day. Dell has shipped me a number of replacement parts and I've always received them via DHL Next Day Afternoon or by Noon.
