What else will you do with your Lappy?

Thread Starter
I'm not that much of a gamer, so won't be doing that much gaming.

So, I thought I'd start this thread to see what else everyone will be doing with their laptops, besides gaming?

As for me, I'll be doing several computer intensive apps with my lappy. Like Autocad, Mechanical Desktop, and Inventor. These are heavy duty 2D and 3D drawing applications I use on the job.

Also, I'm into home video editing, and take care of corporate video projects for my employer, so I'll be doing video and graphics programs.

I will be taking my Area 51m on the road with me this month when I travel To New York City on business. (if it freakin gets here before 01/19/04!)

I'll be doing mostly compiling, I'm a software engineer. Running linux / windows, gaming, graphics design.

not much gaming here either

I won't be gaming on mine either. I use AutoCad for drawing electrical schematics for my job. Occasionally I use Circuit Maker to simulate electrical circuits. I also use my current laptop (Dell 1.2Ghz inspiron 8100) to do video editing of family video. I plan on using my new Area-51m to do the same kinds of things. It's probably more power than I need but I don't care. I have the money to blow so I went all out. Hope I don't have any problems with it. I have never been dissapointed with my Dell laptops.

I on the otherhand do a lot of gaming. But the main reason that I got this 51m was to type reports, watch movies, and just the mobility of it. I just think that its just an all around well based computer....no matter what I end up doing.

I hate to mention this menial task, but I use mine heavily for Power POint, I know that just about any lappy can run it, but I do love the AW remote control for my presentations.

Frequency: looks like we're upgrading from the same thing to the same thing :P I've got an Inspiron 8100 1GHz, new specs are in my sig.

I'm a web applications developer, primarily java based and most of Macromedia's suite of tools. IntelliJ Idea for compiling my java back ends; DreamWeaver for my ColdFusion middle tier; Flash, Flash Remoting and Web Services for my interface tier.

Web and graphic design. A project I finished last week already paid off my laptop IN FULL.

I got mine primarily to help do some light video editing and photo touchup. I help a professional shooter friend of mine do training videos.

No, being able to do some serious gaming is a HUGE plus.

I'll also use the lappy for work. Lots of presentations etc etc...

I plan to push mine to the limits! Im web designer by trade, so will be doing a good share of Photoshop and web coding on it. Im also a strong gamer (bf1942 r0xx0rs!), so Im sure I'll be needing all the beef-e-ness that my AW has!

Well I'll be doing the same thing that I did with my former lousy HP. I plan on doing school work, Java Compiling, Internet time, Movies on road trips (Why I went with the Widescreen), and of course GAMES!!!. I plan on putting Starcraft, BF1942, Halo, CStrike, Elite Force 1 + 2, Jedi Knights, GTA: 3 and VC and others.

One can only hope! That's my dream job, the porn industry that is. I spend countless hours in the gym getting ready for my future in porn. But as I rapidly approach 30 my dream is sadly dying.....

Besides nearly non-stop gaming, I will be using my system for a great deal of word processing, for I do alot of writing.
Animation, some limited work as a portable DAW.

Other than that... gaming and generic tasks (programming, general graphics work, word processing, etc.).

This puppy is my desktop-on-the-go

Dude, hit up GDI Tech for the enclosures...

Using slickdeals and them I'm putting together a rather nifty 8-drive enclosure for the express use of my lappy.

*begins salivating*

The remote is handy for Power Point, have done one with it thus far.

I do web dev work with dreamweaver, PhotoShop, and the likes. I also have IIS installed so my ocmputer acts as a webserver with COldfusion extensions installed on it. The extra umph from my old dell 8100 laptop is well welcome. I have certainly crashed my dell with an infinite loop in my webprogramming.

Do all my programming HW with MS Visual Studios .NET 2003, and the HT ability of the P4 is very welcome.

And of course games, can't wait till the new upgrade cards come out and get ride of this NV5600 POS.
