Ram upgrade woes!! Ferrari 3200

Hi Folks,

Just bought some ram from OEM memory in the US. 1Gb, turns out i have one of the ferraris with 512mb in one slot! Plugged the extra stick in it's PC2700 from OEM configurator and all seemed OK, until I actually tried to use something graphics and memory hungry, ie a game, then the computer choked!

Any suggestions?

I will try taking the other stick out and leaving in only the new 1Gb stick to see if it is an issue of compatibility between the two sticks, if so, I will have an original Ferrari 3200 512Mb ram stick for sale.

Also bought a Hitachi 7K 100 hard drive , looking forward to putting that in later. I have a copy of Acronis, damn it seems long winded. Is it not possible to copy everything across onto the new drive? I can set up the new drive temporarily as a USB drive as I bought a caddy, can I not just copy the whole of the old hard drive across? I would really like not to have to reinstall everything program by program....

Thanks for any suggesions.

I would try swapping the RAM , the slot under the keyboard is the #1 memory slot with #2 being on the bottom. Also try making sure that the memory module is fully seated in the slot by verifying that the locking tabs on either side fully engage the cut outs on the module. If that doesn't solve your issues then I would suggest going with your origianl plan and simply remove the 512mb completely. Although I would much rather you have 1.5GB of memory.

As for you HD issue.. I am not familiar with Acronis, but I do know the the latest version of Ghost supports cloning from USB drives.

Acronis

Acronis Disk Clone,Part of the True Image app--does just what you're looking for--extremely easy to use,and very fast and dependable, clones to a usb drive just fine.
