this thread:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/...showtopic=8545

drivers:
http://download.laptopvideo2go.com/n...eries/8265.exe

modded inf:
http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/80ser...f/nv4_disp.inf

you gotta download both, then extract the drivers thing. there will be a new folder. copy the inf into the folder overwriting the other one. then execute the setup exe. bingo.

why oh why didn't why think of this possibility? damn...
btw my laptop is at its limits. =) still running cool and quiet

You really don't need the moddified inf file, I'm pretty sure you could get away with just downloading the drivers off nvidia's site and when installing the driver tell windows to let you pick the driver that you'd like to install and select the 7800 gtx.

Guess I should add that you do need to uninstall your old drivers first.

That's a negative, didn't work

what? the installation or the overclocking? i could post my bios if its the overclocking thing and you could try a combination of my bios and the desktop drivers.
Just tell me your version, because drivers alone didn't do it.

my version is 05.70.02.21.01 dated 09/20/05

Exactly the same as mine, odd, why can you overclock when I cant?
Did you just install the new drivers over the old ones or did you remove the old ones first?

i removed the old ones first

yea i'm really sure. i dunno why it works for me and not for you. that sucks.

lets see i had the the mobile drivers instelled with coolbits 1 and 2 enabled. then i uninstalled the drivers and installed the desktop 82.65 (i think) from laptopvideo2go using the modded inf. and then i could oc..... want me to post my bios to check if that helps?
No need to, we've got the same version dated at the same date, so it's identical. I'll try and see if I can't get it to work.

*Edit*

Could you please check your driver version just to be sure.

*Edit 2*

It works now, it was indeed a driver thing.

thats great to hear! but.. what did you do to make it work in the end?

GUYS THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED! YOU NEED THE DESKTOP DRIVER TO OVERCLOCK YOUR CARD!

happy overclocking
What I did was.

1: Installed Coolbits 2.

2: Removed the current drivers.

Then, 3: Installed the new ones with the "Have Disk" method. (See this link for more information.)

Wow this is big news! Whats the safest max for gpu and memory clock? Like what speeds are you guys runnign it at?

nobody can tell you what the safest speed is. i'm running mine with zero artifacts at 443/1220. 3885 3dmark06 =)
I'm not really too familiar with 3dmark06 yet. Could you possibly run a 3dmark05??

as i said zero artifacts. had it running at 447/1236 no artifacts, but decided to have a safety margin. temps are the same as with stock speeds.
