Sony Vaio vgn-S1VP no possibilities to boot from CD/DVD in bios

Hi,
My girlfriend have a Sony Vaio VGN-S1VP and the windows XP crash on it. I wanted to reinstall win XP on it but i'm not able to choose in the bios the possibilities to boot via the DVD. The bios recognize the DVD as a Secondary IDE chanel and the HD as the primary. When I go to the tab for the boot sequence the bios recognize only the HD nothing else. And for sure when she got the computer she didn't make any recovery disk for it.

Right now on the computer somebody else install before the xp crash linux SUSE 9.1 I know some vaio don't like to have dual OS and I want to do a clean restart of everything. And for sure she doesn't have the SU adminatror password of Linux!.

The laptop doesn't have a floppy impossible to boot that the two possibilities to boots right now it's via the HD who brings me to the lilo stuff of LINUX and the other one it's via a network but no need for that.

I tried to information over the web and over all the website of vaio but nothing comming out right now. Help will be really appreciate.

hi there,
i've heard that sony recalls some notebooks of S series, you may find some info on their site - if that crash has mentioned symptoms. they automatically extend warranty (+1 year) on qualified computers.
if you get dos prompt on it try some dos commands kinda fixboot (for ME, but who knows), or restore ...
the best is to get someone else's recovery discs. S must boot from dvd, if not - you've got problem in bios - virus or hardware (dvd) malfunction (but it must not), if machine is under warranty - good for you. otherwise you may try to pull out hard drive and put it into some good enclosure to connect to other computer via usb or firewire and see what's there, check it clean it etc.. there is a thread somewhere on this forum how to pull it out.
good luck
