512 should be decent, but yes an extra 512 would be just that much more beneficial. w/ 768MB of ram i've been quite impressed by how well the G4 and OS X handles multitasking even under heavy loads. it isn't the fastest at encoding but imo i enjoy the fact that i can use the rest of the system while it's going on.

darq, I would suggest one of the new mac/intel iMac's 17 incher, but go through the apple store and get the educational, you don't really have to be in school they don't check, and you can get the 17" with a gig o' ram, Microsoft Office Student and Teacher, and be under $1500, but then you'll need to add taxes and shipping

also, if it can wait a week or 2, it'll be interesting if amazon will be offering the rebates on the iMac which they've been offering for the G5 version for the last year+. then u'd be @ or just below academic prices w/ no taxes or shipping.

Well, they're actually not bad. Look at those specs and then look at the iBook and etc specs. I'd say it's about par and a lot less money than shelling out for the iMac.

I would suggest that you can look at the powerbooks (refurbished). I saw some decent prices on apple website. You can get it under 1500. You will be fine with it at least another 3 yrs. You can get a decent 15 inch PB refurbishes for like $1399. Hope this helps
