XTreme-G MobileForce Drivers + 3dMarks + Games

post #1 of 8

I have recently installed XTreme-G MobileForce Drivers 81.95v2 and i have a couple of questions regarding these driver that i am hoping all the M170 + 7800 gtx users might be able to help me with.

Having installed these i ran 3dmarks05 i got a score of 6785 which is an improvement on the 7800gtx stock drivers. So i set the forceware setting to Auto over clocking and my scores shot down to 5075. Now i know 3dmarks scores doesnt mean better gaming. However i havent noticed any real improvement when playing Need for Speed MW. Coupled with the fact that setting the auto overclock option reduces my 3dmarks scores. I am worried this might slow down the preformance in my games as well.

Anyone got any recommendation on the best driver, overclocking setting combo?

Thanks

i just installed extreme 82.65 on my xps2 these are the fastest & have dam good IQ as well . They just posted a new extreme version 81.97 that Tony seems to like a little better- i have not had a chance to try them yet. A true overclock must be done via bios- many threads on how to do this.
Godd Luck

Auto-overclock is bad like that. Sometimes it overclocks your card way beyond it's capabilities so that it starts erroring and you get lower scores as you witnessed yourself. The best way to overclock is to do it manually so that you know where you are and you know that it's stable.

i have also noticed that since installing these drivers the fans run louder for longer as well? Is that normal?

some of the drivers will make the card run at a hotter temp, so yes, I would expect an increase in fan noise. I pretty much have my fans running full speed ahead most of the times anyways, so I don't notice it anymore

Also, has anyone tried both of the new drivers? I just went with the Dell one (xtg 81.97) and did not try the 82.65... am I missing anything by not using the 82.65s?

I just installed 81.97v2.25, and my 3DMark05 went up a few fps. Here's the breakdown.

81.98v2.25 = 7317
81.97v2.25 = 7321

Sorry for the short history, but since I just installed my 7800GTX last week, I don't have the long list of drivers/benchies of my 6800Go Ultra. As for games, I haven't tried them yet, but I will soon.

(OK, just played some NFS:MW -- beat the second guy on the BlackList BTW -- and I must say, these drivers seem MUCH smoother than 81.98's, but the IQ doesn't seem as good IMHO. I run the game at 1680x1050, 4x TRMSAA, 16X AF, everything on MAX. SMOOOOOOOTH!)

ok, i just read the forums over at tweaks r us, and I think I'm gonna keep the 97s. People seem to like the smoothness of these over the 82.65.

Although it feels wierd going DOWN a driver version (from 81.98).... oh well, stranger things have happened.
