I have a 6000. I have been wanting a 9-cell battery, should I buy from Dell or are there better deals to be had on genuine Dell batteries elsewhere?

Are there any recommended US sites to get a 9 cell battery from.

If not, is there something particular to look for on ebay, ie hopefully avoiding batteries that have been recalled, etc.

BTW, I have an i6000D.

Just make sure it says 'genuine' or 'original' and see if the battery in the picture has the 'dell' badge on. also be careful of '100% compatible','generic' and '3rd party' etc. as they made be inferior copies

ebay and batteries,not the best idea,outdated,in most all cases not the lattest revision,unloaded problematic peices,not even good warranty,can cause problems.

the problems that can come from them are to me just not worth it,i am buying a 9 cell from dell,costly yes! = BEST WAY TO AVOID PROBLEMS.

I'd have to agree.

I'm all about saving money and not using the manfacturer to upgrade due to high costs. But I think believe with batteries, and exception can be made. Most, if not all, aftermarket brand batteries won't meet up to the performance of the original. And to sell something cheaper than the OEM, means you had to get it real cheap. And I doubt Dell is selling A+ products in bulk at very cheap prices. My guess is they are ones that failed inspection.

I had troubles with eBay and batteries also since if you do not have professional battery testing equipment you wouldnt even be able to tell how old these batteries are.

Its a risky business buying aftermarket cel phone and laptop batteries from other companies who may not meet the same safety standards as the original manufacturer. There's generally a good reason why aftermarket batteries of these kind are cheaper in price, they are generally cheaper in quality as well so be careful when looking at aftermarket batteries.

not always 100% true. sometimes aftermarket companies find a way to sell products of the same quality for much cheaper. in the case of batteries though, i would have to bring a couple into my shop and take a look to be sure.

Have to add that I've been buying battery replacements on eBay for a number of items for years and haven't been burned at all. I've bought replacements for 3 or 4 APC UPSs which have lasted just as long as the originals, 3 batteries for Cell phones and others for cordless phones. Mind you I've been an ebay seller and buyer for years and know what to look for better than most ebayers.

Still I'll admit that if you dont use caution its easy to get burned buying replacement batteries.

I agree there are some aftermarket companies that have good products as ive experienced with cel phone batteries but the problem is that its very hard to distinguish these companies from the ones selling inferior products. You would need to look at safety ratings, study the standards etc, research if possible through name brand if aftermarket product meets standard etc etc etc.
Certainly, anyone buying an aftermarket battery should do their homework rather thoroughly before pulling the trigger.

I agree with this. You really do need to research the items your looking at, if you have any questions contact the seller and ask. I typically even contact the seller and ask anyways just to see what type of reply I get. This all in itself can make or deter me from buying.

edit.. just dont take the sellers word as all your research. You do really need to know the product and what to look for.
