Apple MacBook Pro vs. Dell Inspiron E1705

Thread Starter
Interesting brief price and feature comparison for the new Dell 9400/E1705 vs. Apple. Unfortunately the guy fails to consider the Dell coupons when he states in his conclusion that "I can't help but feel like the famed "Mac price premium" is a myth here. Dell currently offers cheaper Intel based computers than Apple, but feature-for-feature Apple's pricing is fair."

Final Price:
MacBook Pro: $2,399
Inspiron E1705: $2,341

I think the funniest thing is reading all the posted comments on that thread. Funny stuff!

Anybody else find it really dumb that they're comparing Dell's 17" notebook with an Apple 15.4" notebook and then calling the two the same "feature for feature"? Obviously Dell's price on the E1705 is gonna be higher than their 15.4" notebook. It's like comparing the prices of a luxury sedan and a compact car.

Dell's price should never be higher than an Apple... (except for XPS systems heh).

But yea, people buy Dell because of Coupons and Deals. Hell, if Dell didn't have the coupons and crazy deals, who the hell in their right mind WOULD buy Dell?

God I love articles like that, especially all the posts afterwards....
I think the only reason that guy wrote that article is to start a flame war and to watch it go down...

good stuff

Well the key point not mentioned by the author is the Dell coupons which make the Dell signifigantly less expensive AND with a 17 inch monitor as well.

I do like the comment posts though like, "the Apple is lighter though." Well no kidding, what do you expect when you are comparing a 17 inch laptop to a 15 inch screen.

The point is that the majority of people who buy Dell computers DON'T use coupons.

You know about the coupons, I know about the coupons, all the people here know about the coupons, but does your grandmother? Does your friend down the block?

I'm willing to bet that at least 80 to 90 percent of Dell computers sold are at full price.

apple is just trying to be apple, there's nothing special between a macbook pro or 9400

I'd absolutely go for an i9400 stead, and I will soon!
