Do you know of any retail outlets with that price?
And to again prove this point, I JUST bought a 12" 1.5GHZ G4, 80GB, 512MB, SuperDrive, BlueTooth, yada yada yada for 1265$ total after taxes and everything. Pretty damn good deal IMHO. It was something like 32% off retail price. I could have gone a step down and got the combo drive and 60gb hd for $1100 but opted to spend the extra $100 for the step up. Now I'm just waiting for the thing to get here!

For "1100, 100 more, 100 more than that" you can get a 15'' Aspire 5672WLMi with Intel Core Duo Processor T2300, 1.66GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB Hard Drive, 15.4-inch WXGA TFT Display, 8X DVD+/-RW Drive

That's a brand new core duo laptop with all the trimmings.

Under 1k, the Presario V4000T can be had with its 128MB X700, 1.6Ghz Pentium M, 512MB RAM for $999, though it would probably be worth it to upgrade the HD for $60 more. If you care more about mobility than gaming, a Dell 700M with a decent dell coupon is a real steal. If you're spending less than 1k you'll have to lean towards performance or portability as the 13.3''/14'' laptops that feature decent graphics are in a slightly higher price bracket.

but it's a 12" system where u pay a price for smaller form factor. there are typically plenty of cheap midsized/weighted machines that beat the prices of smaller and lighter notebooks of any brand, and often the same brands of notebooks. i don't suppose u'd like to do some research and point these out to other readers would u?

But that's Aspire and Compaq...and they're PCs...and they suck.
