Ferrari 3000 - Page 10

Thanks for the advice. I'll check out PC Torque.

I find many companies will ship internationally, but many also cancel shipping to certain countries if it's electronics. Unfortunately, the Czech Republic is one of them.

I'm sold on the 3200 thanks to Dekka. The Radeon 9200 was the only thing holding me back in the 3000. The 3200 quenches my fears of not being able to play Half-Life 2!

Is anyone else on this forum from Europe and interested in/already bought a Ferrari? I would appreciate any help allowing me to buy a Ferrari 3200 for under 2500 euros.

Thanks,
Kristof

Ferrari System Icons

I made these last week while slacking off work - 3 WinXP High Colour icons of the Ferrari 3000/3200. Feel free to use as you see fit - all imagery originally appears on the Acer website.

lotech,

Nice icons - ya got too much free time on your hands!!

The7thbard,

Found a company that will help you and ship to Czech Republic for around $110.00 2-3 express.

They do not have the ferrari 3200 in stock as of yet (Like everyone else in the world). However I note yesterday that the Travelmate 8006lmi is in stock now and ready to ship......bit pricy tho..

www.neutronexpress.com

I have used this company loads from the UK and find them very fast usually get things delivered by UPS in 3 days from ordering.

That looks pretty good. The Ferrari 3200 is on backorder, it should cost around $2100 USD including air shipment to the Czech Republic.

The only question I have now is how much the customs agents will charge me. Those fruitloops hate electronics. Thanks for the help Dekka.

One last question to start a new discussion: What's the most advanced game you're playing on your Ferrari? Detailed info about graphic performance is apperciated.

Not really sure what you will get charged in your country.

In the UK we have to pay 17.5&% VAT on imports plus 2% Import duty.......Crazy I know.

Cant comment on the game front as I do not have a ferrari 3000 or 3200 yet.

I currently have a Dell inspiron 8600 with 1.7ghz Pentium M and 9600 Pro 128mb Graphics card.

Games that play fine at around 1280x res are Far Cry, City Of Heroes without much problems only when you put it upto 1600x res do you start to notice frame rate drop.

I would expect the ferrari to WELL outperform my current Dell

I've had issues with the Graphics card, all the modified ATI drivers (Omega & DHMOD) seem to have problems drawing the top text layer (menus) in games. This is the case with pretty much everything I've tried - Max Payne 2, C&C Generals and Prince of Persia 2 - all seem to be rendering 3D but no top layer. POP2 draws the screen Pink, others show nothing - I can't even see any words so the its a a good old Ctrl-Alt-Del - my favourite keys.
I used driver cleaner to roll back to the Acer Drivers which seem to work fine but POP2 has glitches throughout with strange issue where you can see through the top left corner of the screens walls people - even worse though is that after about 5mins of play the game slows right down and pretty much becomes unplayable....
I've reformated the drive and replaced the OS with XP Pro. There are other users using the hacked drivers so it strange I can't get similar results.

Lotech,

Do you have the Ferrari 3000 (Radeon 9200) or Ferrari 3200 (Radeon 9700)?

That's a bummer about the problems in the game. I wonder if it's a problem with the game or the graphics card. Anybody else want to get a hold of a *cough*cough* test copy of Prince of Persia 2 or C&C Generals?

Lotech,

That sounds more like a hardware problem than a driver problem...possibly an over heating card.

Which machine is it you have?
I've got a 3000 so a Radeon 9200. I've had no issues with it in normal 2D use and its really only the games that cause issues - I use it also for video art, which uses alot of CPU & VPU (although no 3D) - did a gig and had no crashes over the course of 6 hours (using DHMOD Drivers). I'm doubtful that it could be a physical defect but theoretically all of our Ferraris are the same so I should be able to use the same drivers and have the same results..... any ideas would be great.

A few people have noted problems with Acer's *build quality*. Could anybody please comment on the quality of the Ferrari 3000 unit? It would be awesome if you could rate keyboard, general body, durability and overall satisfaction with the laptop.

Neurowired,

If you go to Page 1 of this thread, there is an excellent review of the 3000. The author went into a lot of detail, and it helped me. If you haven't read it yet, I think you would find it helpful.

Thanks Kristof,

It is a nice review. I was going for the pluralism of opinion here. I am thinking of getting 3200 and I like only pleasant surprises.

I'm not sure how to describe the build quality because it's completely subjective. Lots of people describe the Mazda3 as having extremely good build, but when I sat in it, I felt it to be cheap and plasticky. *shrug*

Hey to that guy who's having problems with his gfx card... I had absolutely no problems with C&C Generals, so I think you should take your notebook into a repair facility and have them replace your card, seeing as you already use the latest drivers.

Has anyone tried the bios update put out by acer support? Does anyone know what the changes are?

Hi.
I own a Ferrari 3000.
I've got many problems:

1. After 1 month since I bought the notebook, the motherboard didn't get power from the power supply, only from the battey. I sent it to the technical service many times (here in Spain, the technical sucks!), and they finally repaired the problem.

3. 5 Months since I bought the notebook, the notebook turns off after 10 seconds, 30 seconds or 30 minutes, randomly. I sent it to the technical service again and they said me that they did something on the CPU cooler, but, when I turn it on, after 10 seconds, it turned off again!!

But I'm not posting here to tell you how works the technical service in Spain. I'm here if there are someone with similar problems.

Thanks for your help. Sorry about my English.

Hi lipido.

I've been reading the posts here and couldn't find anything that made reference to your problem.

I live in the Czech Republic and understand what you mean about technical support. They just don't understand customer service in Europe yet.

Can I ask how much you paid for your Ferrari 3000? I was considering buying the 3200, but the price is way too high for my budget. It's an odd problem here in Czech because although we're part of the EU, the prices remain astronomically high, whereas prices in Great Britain and Germany are exactly the same (even though one uses pounds, and the other euros).

I do hope someone can provide a remedy for your problem.

StormX02: where did you find this info about the bios update?

Hmm strangely it isn't listed on the Asian/Worldwide Acer Site @
http://www.acersupport.com/notebook/html/fr3000_dl.html.

And theres no readme of changes or even any more than basic information on flashing... slack ACER. Hopefully some info will turn up. As it is I'll stick to the factory original, no major issues.

Infact after a quick check 3A22 is the factory bios on my 3000.

What about a firmware upgrade for the DVD Burner?

I was thinking about buying some 4x blank DVD-R's but the package warns that most 2x burners will need a firmware upgrade to be backwards compatible...

i still haven't sent my 3000 back to acer to fix the loose DVD drive. has anyone here done so, and are you satisfied with the repair?

thanks.
I don't believe they make 4x only discs - You should be able to burn newer 4x Discs on your burner without any issues.

On another note Acer has specs of the new 3200 on their American Site - HERE
