Ferrari 3000 - Page 11

Seems to be all quiet on the forum - something to hopefully make someones day:

------------------------------------------------------------
Modded BCM Tray Icons for Acer Ferrari 3000 V1.0 (06.07.04)
by lotech (www.lotech.co.nz)
------------------------------------------------------------

I hated the icons that came with the Wireless Tray util installed on my laptop so I thought I better do some tweaking. The replaced icons use Apples wireless icons (and as a result I can take no credit for their design) - but damn if they don't look better. No more cryptic colour scheme to show the signal strength. It is based on V3.30.15.0 of the Config utility.

INSTALLATION
1. Close any wireless services you have Open and disable you WIFI card under
Control Panel / Network Connections.
2. Rename c:\windows\system32\bcmwltry.exe to something else (such as bcmwltry_old.exe)
3. Extract zip contents to this c:\windows\system32
4. Restart, enable WI-FI & enjoy.

PROBLEMS
There shouldn't be any issues as is just a hacked version of the only version of this available. As usual if you break something beyond belief I take no responsability for your problems - although I doubt this will happen.

FUTURE
More support for other Acer Laptops with the same wifi card - chances are it works with these now. If anyone tries it please email me so I can add it to the listed supported models.

Bios 3a22

I've had this Ferrari 3000 since January. I made the MISTAKE of flashing the BIOS in February with 3A22 from the Acer Europe support site. The Ferrari simply died. Acer fixed it (at my cost - since it was "willful damage"). It's been back in the shop 4 times since for overheating issues leading to motherboard failure (and my friends now call it the Skoda). The last fix seems to be holding - for now.

Now I see that 3A22 is available on the North American site - and I'm fearful to flash it! Has anybody successfully done this (I'm not interested in those that have a factory install of 3A22).

Any comments on this are welcome - specifically in regards to what the BIOS update actually provides.

Wow it's been a while... lol

Yeah I actually sent mine in last week to have the drive fixed. Sent it out on Wednesday, came back on Tuesday. That was quick. =)

They installed a new drive and there's absolutely no waggle now; it's nice and tight. But the drive itself seems slightly louder than before I think... and the beeping noises don't sound cool anymore. Bahaha. ^o^

I kinda wish I held off til the last month of my warranty. I wouldn't mind getting one of those slot-loading drives if they ran out of stock for the old types =D

heY all...
Bringing this thread back to life cause i got a problem with my 3000LMI, it appears that my paint job is comming down with a hard case of blurry spots... looks like the paint is slowly been eaten or something like that like sun spots on old cars ?... this is worrying me a lot ! Anyone else has problems with their paint job ? i mailed Acer about this problem and i'm still expecting an answer.

Oh, and i take really good care of the laptop, i cover it up when i'm not using it and hardly ever take it with me to anywhere, so im sure i didn't do that to the paint.

Bios

Can anyone give me a copy of the old BIOS?? The technical service updated my BIOS to 3A22, since that I've got overheating problems.

I think I know what you're talking about, and if it's what I've experienced, it's just dust clumping up on it. Use tissue soaked in mild soapy water to clean off the paint then use a tissue soaked in water to "rinse" it... and it should be bright and shiny again. I've also used Windex on it. hahaha

Armorall Paint protector works great. A little on a soft dry wipe and then buff with aanother clean dry cloth. This stuff does not leave any white chauk like residue in any crevices like traditional auto waxes.

Hi...

Thanks for the reply guys, but unfortunatly i already tried to clean the laptop many times, it's really a paint problem it seems, kind of sad about it but it really isn't that noticable (yet, anyway).

Cheers,

Does anyone have icm profile for Ferrari 3000 screen?

Hi,

During my short vacation I have made some web design on F3000 after I come back and take a look to my project at CRT screen colors where completely different. I did try to calibrate colors on my ferrari but I have no hardware calibrator and results where really poor. Maybe one of you has good icm profile that I can use with adobe gamma loader.

Thanks in advance.

Just curious, if I uses my recovery CD for my Ferrari 3000, would it reformat my drive D partition? or it just format the drive C partition?

Also, I have deleted some files in the drive D when the first time I bought the laptop, is it affecting the recovery process??

thanx

Hi there All,

Had my F3000 for around 6 months now, here in UK. Was wondering if anyone was ever able to enjoy the full 333MHz?

Also have attempted Redhat 9.0 all worked great, except the 802.11g card, well dissapointed so had to revert back to the monopoly, using w2k now, and can't fault it except the IR.

Very happy with all really.

(now watch, it'll go boom now I've said that).

I did a total format and install of XP Pro SP2 then used the cd to load drivers for the 3000. Everything OK, NTFS file system evrything working except for the bluetooth. It kept saying "No radio device found". Tried searching for a answer but never found one so put the recovery disk back in.

It's my a, s & n that are disappearing.

Anyone use the Omega gfx drivers and had a slow down of the system after.

I have got the followin gfrom their readme but sont understand (im not very bright)

H- After installing the new drivers and rebooting, if your desktop is SLOW and
games won't run, is because AGP acceleration has been disabled by Windows, in
order to fix this you MUST re-install the latest AGP chipset drivers for your
Mother Board (this also includes laptops). After rebooting check the Advanced
SmartGart Options in the Omega Start Menu and see if at least AGP/PCI read are
both ENABLED, if all of them are enabled, the better, but some MBs doesn't
support AGP/PCI write functions, if all still disabled, just click on "Retest
All" and press OK to restart.

I have had my 3000 for a year now still loving it
