Excellent, glad to see you like it =)

I did. Go into power mangement and set it to be a desktop machine. No power saving stuff and LCD dimming features. When ever I right click on my computer it always say 1.86GHz. Before it would vary depending on what mode it was in.

STORMX02, thanks for the benchmarks I wonder why the processor speed is locked at 1.5Ghz ??? If you are ever able to unlock it and have it run at the 1.89Ghz, please re-run the benchmark tests and post it. Also I thought I read somewhere that the ATI 9200 graphics card that is in the Acer Ferrari 3000 was under-clocked to reduce heat, if this is so would running a program like POWERSTRIP 3.47 here: http://www.entechtaiwan.net/ps.htm make it perform any better ??? i am really interested n buying one of these, as I really like the looks, and the price is really nice with all the features.

Thanks for the link JD. It looks like a cool product. Where did you get the 1.89GHz figure from? I am maxed at 1.86GHz.

I thought I saw 1.89 when I was looking at the system properties in 3dmark2k1, not sure anymore. and I've uninstalled it...

lol i think I'm gonna reformat, i've been screwing around with the kernel changing my boot screen and now I can't see my processor speed. under System Information, it says Cannot Access Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management software may be moved or missing... argh...

Just bought the ferrari...
Really happy with it except for xp home as we are not allowed network with xp home..
Is the dvd software available from the restore disk or are the discs images?
If so, what is the suggested burning tool (nero)?

I am really happy with it so far.
Thanks for the great reviews!

Hi. I also just ordered the Acer Ferrari 3000LMi. It's my first ever notebook so I'm pretty excited about it. You can download the manual from the acer site:

http://csd.acer.com.tw/acer/URMUL1.N...=50&Expand=5#5
(Go to the link marked 'Ferrari 3000')

StormX02, I will be using Visual Studio.NET for work, and I wonder if there are problems with your VC++ (I'm presuming you're using version 6). Also, can the E-mail notification light be associated with an IMAP account? I think the notebook has its own software for checking POP3 mails but I'm not sure if it can do IMAP.

Nope no problems with VS6 whatsoever.

Err are you sure you don't mean email button? I don't see an email indication light ><.
Hmm. I think there is no e-mail indicator light. But on the manual there's a mention of "E-mail Detection" on the "Launch Manager" program.

Hmm... never used it myself... gdame?

H-m-m, Not that I can see. I leave outlook open all day anyway. I did set up my launcher buttons to my preference and they work great.

I had to go through an airport yesterday and they made me take my notebook out of the case. You should have seen the looks on peoples faces when I took Big Red out and put it on the conveyer.

My buddie had a 17" Toshiba. What a beast to carry compared to the F3000. I am still loving it. I am at disney for the week on business. I am so glad I got this thing. I did a yahoo messesger video session last night with my 2.5 year old daughter. Thank god for broadband.

Hi,
do you guys use the ati driver or the omega ati driver?

Omega.

don't notice any performance gains but now I can get higher refresh rates off my CRT when it's hooked up, (60 -> 75 @ 1400x1050) and 3dmark03 recognizes the gfx card as a 128mb instead of 64

has anyone tried WiFi? I'm thinking about getting a 802.11g router so I can get access everywhere in the house =)

Hi guys. Thank you for your thorough reviews. I noticed Ferrari a couple of week ago and I am fascinated by it. It has very good configuration and all the communication interfaces which is great. I may say i have decided to buy it but before ordering I 'd like to get some more opinions.
Ferrari has a lot of attractive features (design, interfaces) but if we leave all these apart for a while, how would you qualify the Athlon processor. What about its performance compared to Intel Centrino at 1.6 GHz, 1.7 Ghz. The battery life is the one point; with this regard the real "heat" that is given offdissipated.... Other pluses/minuse in favour to Athlon? For instance, the FSB in Intel Centrinos is 400 MHz, in the P4s it exceeds 500 MHz and in Athlon XP-M it is the "classical" 266 MHz. How about that? Surely, an advantage of Ferrari is the 333 MHz DDR compared to the 266 of some others Centrino based models.
I don't think this processor thing could make buy a Centrino notebook like Aspire 2003LMi (which I am also considering or was considering before studying thoroughly the Ferarri) but may be this is the last thing that makes me hesitate whether to order it right away.
Another question, you (StormX02, gdame) mentioned about melting the stickers on the right (smb said there is the HDD not the CPU, but still) after how many hours of operation the stickers "melt"?
And another question, how about the display? Is it inverting the colors when you look it from aside?A friend of mine bought a Fujitsu 8830 and its display is poor: when you look at it from aside u can see almost nothing. Some models I have looked in carefully (HP nx7000, Aspire 2000) have vertical viewing angle +-55 grad and horzontal +=65 grad. I have not managed to get to such specs for the Ferrari. However, what's yr feelin whenu look at an angle at the display. Is it decent?

Have used bluetooth connection on a nokia for dial up access (115kbs). We dont have wifi in my building but gave me a strong signal from another building beside my department.
RE: heat. The Acer does get hot but not nearly as hot as my thinkpad....sometimes i could fry an egg on the T21!

Honestly, I'm still kinda iffy on the processor. The only major advantage that the AMD processor has over its competition is its price it seems. Let me put it this way... I would much rather they had put a Centrino in here but they didn't, because AMD sponsored them or something. ugh. lol =D

I actually found out that it wasn't the actual sticker that was melting, but rather the protective plastic cover on it that was. I simply peeled it off and it's fine now. =)

Hmm... it's not inverting the colors, but it does get dimmer as you look from increasingly larger angles. It's no CRT, but it's quite close to the 17" LCD screens we have in our school's Mac lab in terms of viewable angles.

can you steal internet access then?
Fine, thanks StormX02. It seems my CPU concerns are objective. However I think I can make a compromise with the processor. In fact if everything was as I liked it to be it would have costed much more. So, I'll give it over trying to base whether an Athlon would be a drawback.
About the TFT LCD: if it is alike the average 17" displays it's just fine. I am contented of them here in my lab.
May u advise on any weak points that I sould look carefully when buying the Ferrari (like dead pixels)? Something else? Any problems with DVD RW, or whatever you have mentioned that may malfunction?
Can u tell me how long, approx, does it take to copy a large file (let say about 100 MB or 700MB) to the HDD or if it noticable longer than same copy on the desktop (i.e. on the faster HDDs). Cuz when I copy files (100 MB) to my pendrive on the Dell notebook it takes about 3-4 minutes while the same takes about a minute on the desktop (both are supposed to got USB2)?
