Z70va speakers have stopped working!

The speakers on my Z70va have suddenly stopped working for me. I have been using headphones periodically over the past month, and just yesterday when I unplugged my headphones, I stopped getting sound out of the internal speakers on my notebook.

I've tried updating/reinstalling drivers to no avail. I'm not sure what's going on here. Very frustrating. Sound works fine through the headphones, just not through the laptops speakers. I don't think there's any problems with the speakers themselves, but I'm at wits end.

Anyone else had this problem before?

Well, my left screener speaker have a lower soundoutput then the others. U can hear a major different, on the right it have a more bass sound and on the left u hear a weaker sound lack of the bass and the front speaker are the dominant.

I had it on repair, Asus sevice, but they didnt do anything.

Try to knock them, gently?!?!?!?

Have you checked the RealTek Sound Manager program? Under "Speaker Configuration", you can choose either 2CH Speaker or Headphones.

Well I just tried doing a complete system restore and still no luck.

No matter what I do, I get sound just fine out of the headphones but not the speakers.

Lol that the exact negation of what the problem should be. The people who posted here state the speakers dont turn off when pluggin in headphones (faulty audio dj needs replacement) your problem is similar in nature though it would need the attention of your dealer to clarify...

Maybe there's a wire loose somewhere. You might want to ask your reseller about it.

Think I fixed it. Looks like my headphones may have been the culprit...

I noticed after doing the full system restore that I wasn't getting very good sound out of the headphones anymore; I would get low sound on system notifications, but not on shutdown/startup, and video sound was crappy (of course...the speakers still weren't working). So I tried another set of headphones and everything sounded fine in the replacements, but I still wasn't getting sound out of the laptop speakers.

Well after a few times inserting/removing the replacement headphones from the jack (just from a few casual tests), the laptop speakers started working again!

My headphones must've jammed the jack somehow and kept the system thinking the headphones were still connected.

well...looks like i spoke too soon...now the speakers won't turn off! ARGH!!!

I still think you should talk to your reseller about it.

Seems like the ''auto switch'' for the headphone jack isn't working properly. As Djembe said, you should talk to your reseller.

Re:

Holy Hell! I am having the exact same problem! I plugged in some external speakers, pulled 'em out, and the bloody internal speakers stopped flippin' working! I too can hear everything well when I plug in headphones, but doing everything you did (I.E. system restor, un- and re-installing the sound drivers), I still cannot fix the problem. Damn, what luck! I had just sent in this laptop to ASUS about two or so months ago. I guess I'm gonna have to talk to Eddie (of Geared2Play) again... .

If you have another set of headphones, try using them. Like I posted before: once I switched headphones the speakers started working again for me after a few times plugging/unplugging them through casual use (but they wouldn't - and still won't - shut off).

I've stopped using the headphone jack at this point. I haven't made up my mind if I wanna bother sending this thing back to get fixed again (had the ghosting problem when I first got it). The headphones not switching off the speakers falls under the "not too big of a deal" category for me. I use this thing for more than just fun and games.

If the internal speakers had totally crapped out I might be more willing to ship this thing out to get fixed, but since they are working again I'm not sure I wanna bother.

Of course, the speakers could just die on me again....I'll have to wait and see.

Re:

What do you mean exactly, when you say that they didn't shut off; did pressing the mute button not turn them off either? Also, this is a question directly towards you, but doesn't necessarily have to be meant just for you: Looking at the S/PDIF jack-hole, do you (or anyone for that matter) see a reddish light? I noticed that I could see this reddish light, ever since the speakers f***ed up on me; I had never seen this red light before (at least I don't think I ever did).
Oh yeah, and just to clear things up in case I didn't explain thoroughly enough the first time: I wasn't exactly using headphone. I was using some external speakers to boost the volume output. Also (I'm sorry), could you re-iterate what you'd said about attempting to resolve the issue? What was it that you were saying; did you say that whilst playing whatever audio or whatever (with the headphones, or in my case the external speakers), that you should try to plug it out? Is that what is supposed to fix the problem?
Thanks for everyone's time.

Badboy
Dont try to correct the issue with the red light. Leave it be until you send it in for screen replacement. Try to get that done asap. I know you got class but i rather get all the screen issues out the way now then later

Re:

Well, Eddie, I'm just gonna have to wait until like May or something (which totally sucks), because I really need this notebook for taking notes during lectures. However, I did just wanna ask: Is there then some sort of coorelation between this red light that I see through the S/PDIF jack, and the sound not working?
Thanks
There most certainly is. If you read back the red light stays on when there is something wrong with the audiodj. Hard to keep track of all these problems but yes i do recall the light being a tell sign for somethiong..........

I had the headphone jack/speaker cutoff issue with my Z70V (Eddie, you might remember me). I personally replaced my entire audio board, thanks to Asus, who sent me a replacement in exchange for my old one.

Given what people are saying here, I'm beginning to think the problem with the jack/speaker interface has something to do with the S/PDIF function of the jack, because I remember a point at which the optical came on and stayed on. It's ONLY supposed to come on when a S/PDIF mini-plug is placed in the jack, otherwise, it should be off. I know nothing at all technical about how this works, and I don't have a S/PDIF mini-plug to see if the speakers would cut off when one is in the jack. If anyone has had experience with that, they should report to the group.

Bottom line is, I think Asus sent out a lot of these laptops with bad audio boards. I hope my replacement doesn't ever go bad. It's working great now.
Its possible alot were sent out. Possibly thousands or a couple of dozen. A minor problem like this by vast majority will not be reported even if found. I doubt anything can fix this other then a replacement board infact iam 99.99% certain of it. I do remember you. You were the one who didnt get any help from your reseller on this and i hate/love hearing stories like this. I do not belive its the actual jack here that is the problem but rather the cpu for the audio sensing technology that goes caput. Not a huge issue for us thank god. Replaced maybee half dozen of these boards in the last few months and hopefully it doesnt get much worse then that,.
I am having this exact same problem with my z70va, red light and all. I guess it's time to contact my reseller as well.

Is it hard to replace the board myself?

New Twist on Speaker Problem

Hey Guys, Ok, so when I first built my z70va my speakers worked fine. No red light, audio would mute when putting headphone jack in the SPDIF output, nothing was an issue. Reinstalled my operating system, couldn't find my orginial ASUS driver disks. Downloaded all the drivers off of the ASUS website....first thing I noticed...strange red light, and next...speakers won't mute when I put in headphones. This tells me this is not a hardware issue, this is a driver issue. Nothing, NOTHING, changed except I reinstalled windows and drivers after deleting my partition and reformating my C drive. So....what type of driver change or software change between install number 1 and install number 2 would cause the red light to come on and the audio, or the sound (tying to include all different descriptions so this thread will get more hits on Google) to not mute, or not turn off, when I plug into the SPDIF??
