XPS Gen 2 or Gen 3?

Hey,

Curious if you know of the next gen XPS Lappies coming soon, since the announcement of the Dual Core Lappies (9400's)...

It seems that they would come out with the XPS Dual Core, I would have thought, first... but I guess not...

Anyone hear anything of this, around the corner?

Until Dual Core surpasses 2.26 Ghz, the single core Dothan will still be faster for gaming purposes, with the exception of games that support dual core.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next XPS is based off of Merom instead of Yonah.

I would bet $$$ there will be a Yonah based XPS revision within the next few months. IMHO it would be a huge mistake for DELL not upgrade its premire notebook (M170) to have access to dual core technology. Granted right now it does not make any difference for most games. However most people use notebooks for much more than just gaming.

I honestly beleive that Dell will pass up yohon and go right to meron when it comes to the XPS . I feel the messege Dell wants to send when it come to the XPS is the power and the ability to upgrade the system. I for one use my XPS for more then just gaming and being yohon will be so short lived and feel that it just paved the road for merom.I think that is why we havent seen or heard anything about the future XPS laptop. The price of new technoligy is always high when it is first released and from what I have read I don't see where the Dual core processors (yohon) at present will benifit a gaming Laptop such as the XPS especially for like $1000.00 more So I am just guessing that Dell Is waiting for Meron and the 64 Bit OS and moreless a real Boost in Power, Video image quality and overall performance to go with the release of their New cream of the crop top of the line powerfull gaming laptop. We all know it will take time for games and software and games to be written to benifit from this new technoligy. But we are getting close to merom and I feel it will be long lived the first version of meron will be great but the second go I feel will be perfected we arent talking about years either it will be soon and by the time meron and the 64 Bit OS hits the XPS we will also see a more powerfull Video card I would Imagine too . So I feel 6 to 10 months we will see the next generation XPS laptop and I also am guessing it will be amazeing and super powerfull machine. Just my 2 cents

I just don't feel Dell wants to Release the New Generation XPS Laptop with Very Limited and such a small increase of power & performance that yohon has to offer at present and being it is also known that it will be so short lived. When Dell releases the New generation of XPS they want it to be somthing that people will say WOW HOLY SMOKE THIS MACHINE IS INCREDIABLE!!!! LOL

What do you think???????????????????

So a slower processor will make for faster gaming?

no currently the dual cores run games at a slightly slower pace, and the dual cores are offered up to 2ghz, where the xps m170 is offered up to 2.26ghz

I thought with some of the new nvidia drivers it can take advantage of dual core with some of the rendering and get like a 20-30% boost or something? (on non multi-threaded aps) but for the actual 3d rendering.

u see, the dual core cpus have higher latency than the single core because of interaction between two cores. therefore they would be slower but only like TOPS ~1-3%. HARDLY ANYTHING. and for the post directly above me i think that the nvidia drivers would increase performance for games that were designed for dual core, not just any game

dual core is a great technology don't get me wrong as my desktop is a dual core amd, but in gaming it is slightly slower and with current software single core proc are going to win.

i don't really think there is a need for the XPS M170 to be upgraded to a yonah but since it is dell's best lappy then they probably will have an update in the future (even though the dothans are just as good for gaming)

id rather get the next desktop xps rather than the next notebook xps because imagine how inmobile the gen 3 could possibly be?
