Just spotted this over at newegg. DVD-RW & DVD+R DL bumped up to 8x and currently only $5 dollars more than the older NEC ND-6650!

The sky is not falling... There will be years before we see a BR burners become readily available and a few more years until they become consumer affordable. Blank DVDs are already cheaper than CDs per MB. Hopefully the price of DL DVD become as cheap as DVD.

I wonder how well that DVD burner fits into my 700m and 9300? I wouldn't buy it until DL DVDs are priced less than $1 each and become as reliable as DVD. So far the cheapest I have seen DL DVD is $2.

Did I see someone on here say there is a slot loading DVD Burner that is compatible with the 9300 available somewhere?

there are a few slot loaders out there.

isn't the spec listed on newegg for ND-6650A? it shows being both dvd -/+ R (DL). though the ND-6650 only was dvd-r DL. anyways, $5 more for the newer and faster drive is definitely worth it.

i wonder if the hardware is the same and a firmware flash would make 6650's into 6750's. i'm guessing no. going to check out cdfreaks

edit: nope, checked liggy's website no dice. and the 6751a looks interesting

Could make a nice upgarde for the 9300 and move the slow reading SONY into my 8100. (I heard there might be some firmware hacks for the Sony to make it read DVD's faster, though).
