Acer TV Tuner

Thread Starter
There's some mention that the 5670 series (and probably the 8200 series) can have an optional TV tuner installed.
Anyone have any specs on this tuner?
Is it internal/external?
Does it possibly do hardware encoding?

Thanks!

Nope, no specs on it, but i can definately confirm that it has support for one. There is an application called Acer Arcade that is a variation of Windows Media Center. Even looks a lot like it, and there is a "Live TV" section.

Acer says there are no TV tuners for the north america models. Boo.

Agreed.....I got the same info today. The guy I spoke w/ said that there is only 1 model that has a TV-tuner (it is a 17-incher). That would seal the deal for me......

Don't forget that there are a number of third-party solutions for adding TV tuners. I wouldn't let that hold me back from purchasing a given system...

3rd party sol'ns for an internal TV adapter? Do tell......

Well, sher, not specifically internal... Personally, I'm looking forward to Expresscard TV tuners, which will 1) perform very well and 2) offer the benefit of being replaceable and thus upgradeable.

I like the idea of an internal tuner.....much like Sager et al offer.....simply b/c it is always there & there is nothing to remember to take with you. What have you heard about Expresscard tuners & besides the above mentioned points, why are they better?
Only that Expresscard is faster than PCMCIA, basically PCI-e. That should provide equal performance to anything internal...

Gotcha. Any time frame for seeing TV tuners expresscards?

Nothing yet, but I've read a number of vendors who are planning on coming out when them (AverMedia, Hauppauge, etc.). The usual players, I suspect.
