Why didnt you all warn me about shipping stuff with them?!!!!!!

I should have gotten my hard drive upgrade from new egg last week. The driver didnt come. I called and told them I would come pick up the package today. When i went there travelling for miles via public transportation I was told that the driver did not unload the package even though the status of the package when i checked online indicated that I had arranged to pick it up. I was told the driver would attempt delivery again today. I am still waiting. My current hard drive is giving off some loud clicks like its going to die any minute now....

I have learnt my lesson. Next time I ship via FedEx or DHL. Or just go to Best Buy and save myself the hassle

Dell Shipped my Laptop yesterday through FedEx.

I paid 89$ for next day shipping.

Its 5:30 pm here and I haven't received it. FedEx tracking hasn't been updated since 7 am in the morning and their track page says that estimated delivery date is 18th Jan.

WTF

Dell says that if it doesn't arrive today, they will refund me the Next Day Shipping charge, so thats like 20$ more than the 2 day shipping charge.

I make a point of never using UPS. I'll pay extra for one of the other guys.

A few years back UPS busted up a monitor I sold, then refused my claim (I fully insured it against such an event) because it wasn't in the original box. Okay ... except it was a Commodore 1084S! The original box is probably decaying in a landfill somewhere in Indiana, for all I know.

They also have an annoying habit (in my town, anyway) of dumping the box on my doorstep, kicking the door twice, then jumping back into their truck and speeding off. Doesn't matter if I'm supposed to sign for it, or if it's worth $5K.

Either way, that's just my $0.02.

Always insist on FedEx

UPS still give me fits just talking about them. But I've never have any problem with FedEx on any given day. They seem to always be either ahead or on schedule with their delivery! UPS, on the other hand, on one occasion, zipped past by my place TWICE bfore making a stop and deliver my monitor a year ago!

In short, FedEx rules!

I believe the next day shipping if for next business day. I had my 2nd 9300 shipped next day, actually dell upgraded for free, anyhow, it went out on Tuesday and arrived on a Thursday. Believe Fedex site and not dell's. As I remember they had an "exception delivery" as the reason for the delay..

When I ship stuff domestically, or internationally, I always use FedEx. I've never had any serious problems with their service, and when I had minor problems they were very helpful and understanding.

In the past, I've used UPS, DHL and TNT, and a few others, but they've all screwed up so horribly that I refuse to use them any longer.

DHL was especially bad, they didn't deliver a package to my house for 2 days because they didn't have time! That is absolutely ridiculous! It took me 3 calls to their call centre for one of their staff to stop feeding me lies about bad weather (it was _unusually_ warm for that time of year!) and just tell me the truth that they didn't have time on EITHER day to deliver my package. Considering the package was sent with the best service they have and it was on a corporate account (company I work for in China) - which gets them about $10,000 worth of business a month (shipping digital a/v products) - you'd think they'd give better service. They have since lost my business and my companies business, which has been picked up happily by FedEx.

That package just so happened to contain the papers I needed to submit with my Chinese visa application. If they would have been 1 day later I wouldn't have had time to get the visa back from Ottawa (I live in Regina), and I would have missed my flights and been screwed. Thanks DHL!

UPS rocks !!!
every package ive ever had sent to me thru ups has been lost.
and i mean literally EVERY SINGLE PACKAGE.

Yeah i've never had much luck with UPS either, i like FedEx though, DHL is ok too... UPS is still better than USPS tho...

The guy that delivers UPS to my door is awesome. He always waits till i am at home and if im not there will leave a note to pick it up. He delivers all my ammo and now my newegg stuff.

The only problem is the rest of UPS and the crappy packing jobs. If they were all as cool as my driver it would be great. But they arent

Never had any problems with any of them and being I have a office for my travel Agency in back of my house UPS delivers on a regular basis along with fed x. Both are great but don't care for DHL. Heck I even give the UPS guy a christmas gift . He does a great job in my opinion he delivers just about evry day. Im on a first name basis and evry now and then he ask to use the phone in the office which I don't mind at all then he's off. I guess it all depends on who runs your rout But I sure am glad I have a good one.

Ups sucks!

I have to say. I've ordered things here int tx and they still find ways to make sure I get it 5 business days from the shipping date. They'll ship it to Albequrque, Nm. and back to Tx just to make sure you get your 5 day ground shipping moneys worth. And the thing about the kick the door twice and bolt. They just set it at the door and leave here without a knock. I had a triumph motorcycle pieced out and shipped throught them once. A $6000 dollar bike that was signature only. Came home late that night and found 10 boxes plain as day on my doorstep.

I had a regular driver that would stop by at 5PM like clock work, then UPS decided to redo all the routes.
Now I have a different guy and he tries to deliver at 9-10am when the idot knows i'm not going to be home.
He once put a package in my trash can becuase it was raining and I had no idea it was even there for two days, I found it when I tried stuffing another bag in the can and it wouldn't fit.
Another time I came home one night and found a note on the door that said "Put in shed", I don't even have a damn shed so I asked the neighbor if he would check his shed for a package, sure enough there's this huge box with my address on it but someone elses name. Long story short, they were called three times to come pick it up and they didn't.
I opened the box (full of home party crap) and called the company and they said I could just keep it since the order was already replaced.

ok, listen people...

I used to work for UPS, and I can share this information with you. UPS, DHL, and FEDEX are all exactly the same. there is an equation for running a shipping company and they all use the same one. people pay for packages to get somewhere in a certain amount of time and they get it there, most of the time. for instance, if you see the truck pass your house 8x, it is not because the driver doesnt give a shit or anything, it is because his orders are to deliver certain packages in a certain order, which is however it was coordinated at the hub.

check this out: at ups, where i worked, all of our regular ground, the 3 day stuff, has the profit used by the company to pay for overhead such as electricity, gas, truck upkeep, facility maintenance, paying workers, etc. the REST of their shipping, next day air, 2 day, all of that, PURE profit.

if your package is not a next day air, it is going to get there when they can get to it. IF your package is next day air and they mess up, it happens. also, if a next day air has more priority than yours, it will get get delivered before yours.

sometimes though, it can come down to the driver. some drivers are talented, and they WILL make sure each package is delivered if it is within their route. when i was into cars, i ordered a catback exhaust from a company and shipped regular 3 day through ups. they got it from california to my hub in philly in 2 days, ahead of schedule. the driver said to go ahead and throw it on her truck. she delivered it to me at 7pm that 2nd nite on her way back to finish for the nite.

not everything is bad all the time, and honestly, between all of the companies, they deliver to me ahead of schedule almost every single time. i bet the story is the same for each of you.

YES there are extreme cases where the companies bone you hardcore, and then BONE you some more by not fixing it, but those cases are rare, and i am sorry if they have happened to you.

word to the wise: keep in mind, that whatever you ship, regardless of what it is, even with a GLASS sticker or FRAGILE sticker on it, is going to get the shit beat out of it. all of the packages make their way onto belts and conveyors, which are rough, fast moving, and not good for fragile things. the people who handle your packages, will throw them every chance they get to save time. it is just how the shipping business is. it goes the same for the merchandise on the shelves of stores. it is shipped and it gets beat up too. luckily, packaging takes good care of merchandise today...

Hah... just got screwed by UPS today.

Friday 1 had 3 boxes being delivered (set of speakers... came in 3 boxes). I wasn't able to be there so I called in and gave them all 3 tracking numbers and they said I could come in at 7PM to pick them up. So I go in at 7PM on friday and wait in line for 40 minutes and they only have 2 of the 3 boxes and say "nothing in the computer says there were 3 boxes"... even though even on the labels they said box 1 of 3, 2 of 3 etc they wouldn't believe me there were 3 boxes (didn't have the tracking numbers)

So I go through the hassle of asking for a favor for my boss to let me work from home until the package gets here today... I wait and wait and get curious becuase the web status never updated to "out for delivery" so I call and I promise you their answer was "I don't know what happened to your package..." Will it be delivered today? "I don't know", can you transfer me to the distribution office becuase they might know? "I don't know their number - goodbye".. What?!? So I freaking drive to the distribution center and wait in line to have them tell me "its out for delivery" so I rush home and wait all day... no package... and now my boss won't let me work from home anymore either... all this and they act like they did nothing wrong.. the computer keeps updating the delivery date so when I call they say "I don't show that package as being late... the date is shown as xyz"

Basically UPS' customer service is aweful .. I can understand packages being late and stuff but when they refuse to even try to help you and tell you stuff that isn't true just to get you to leave them alone that is rediculous.

Update: Got a call from UPS tody to tell me that they apologize but they are unable to locate my package at this time. I couldt get mad and spit Jamaican cuss words at the agent partly because it was a lady that called, and partly becuse some of my new students for this semester were standing right before me

Any advice on how to proceed if they are unable to recover my stuff? Should they compensate me or should I contact newegg?

Anyway, UPS, FedEx, and DHL are NOT quite the same as giraffe3 said. I currently work for FedEx and have buds that work for UPS. UPS is a ground company that does some air overnight, FedEx is an air overnight company that does some ground. DHL...well DHL is a different beast.

You see, UPS owns their drivers, planes, etc. When something is sent UPS, it's owned by UPS from pickup to dropoff...with certain exceptions (feeder aircraft). FedEx Express (overnight up to 3 day air) is the same way, owned by FedEx with the same exceptions. FedEx Ground is a little different, the delivery trucks tend to be 3rd party contract, used to be part of 3 separate companies that were all integrated. There were some teething pains initially with Ground, that have gotten a lot better.

DHL is actually 2 companies in the US, ABX and Aster Air. They had a LOT of integration issues. They make the companies compete against each other for sub contracts, which causes issues in tracking. September was VERY bad for DHL, but supposedly, they've been improving...well, except for that lost tape mentioned above.

http://www.aircargoworld.com/regions/northam_0106.htm

My recommendation? DHL may be cheaper, but as a LOT of people who have used them have said...you get what you pay for. Personally (and yes I work for FedEx Express) I used to use UPS if I want it there inexpensively, and FedEx if want it there reliability and quickly. Now that I work for FedEx, I use Express for speed or deadbolt reliability, and Ground for less expensive shipments.

Like someone else said on here, no matter who you use, the package WILL get beat up...not squashed typically, but roughly handled unless you paid a LOT of money for that not to happen. Remember, cargo planes or trucks will typically bulk out instead of weight out...so it pays for more packages to fit in a given space. I'm of the 'drop it off a one story roof' type...pack it like that's going to happen.
