Thread Starter
I had linux and xp installed on my laptop and I decided to reinstall windows, wondows overwrote my linux boot loader, I lost my installation cds, I have no rescue disk, and I cant get into linux to get my school files to run. What should I do

If you can still boot into xp then there are a few utils to mount linux drives under windows. So I would

a) start dling the install CD's again
b) grab the utils mentioned in this thread http://sagerforums.com/showthread.php?t=12674
c) pray that windows wasnt stupid enough to format you linux drive when you reinstalled it.

Knoppix to the rescue! Or, as Bratag suggested, get the Gentoo LiveCD again. Knoppix is simply more convenient since you actually have a fully working system when you boot it - a very nice addition to everyone's toolkit.

Mandrake has also just released a run from CD version. First reviews are very positive.

Try downloading it, lol. Looks like the servers will be pretty loaded for a while. Also, I would definitely try it myself if I could download it, but the whole "you gotta buy the boxed version to be able to save your settings" thing really turns me off. I know financing such development is tough, but the commercialization of distros like Redhat and Mandrake doesnt give me a good feeling.

Erm... you've probably already fixed things, but with suse, i suggest you have your suse raid driver disk handy and grab the 22mb ftp install CD from linuxiso.org . it also has rescue functionality - and its suse.
