In that case I would recommend the Xtrac Ripper. It's another great low cost pad, but it's not a hard surface like the Black Knight. The dpi, as with the hard or soft surface of the pad, comes down to personal preference. I prefer a higher dpi, but I don't care about the surface as long as it tracks well. Most casual gamers out there would probably be happy with a 1600dpi mouse.
I checked, and Aus PC-Market does carry the Ripper for about $44...not shabby looking at the rest of the pads on that page...
With the mouse im leaning towards a razer diamondback plasma le, or the copperhead, or a G5. Its the pad im unsure of
