Hi...I'm going to be ordering a customized HP zd8000 online sometime in the next few days, but first I have two questions. First, are there any known problems with this model? And second, does anyone know any coupon codes I could use to knock a little off? Thanks for any help...specs are below.

Customized HP zd8000 with:
  • Windows XP Professional with SP2
  • Pentium 4 650 with Hyper-threading processor (3.4 Ghz)
  • 17" WSXGA+ Widescreen Display
  • 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM, 533 Mhz
  • 100 GB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
  • LightScribe 8x DVD-RW/CD-RW Double-layer burner
  • 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon X600 Graphics Card
  • 2 12-Cell Lithium Ion Batteries (I ordered an extra because of battery life)
  • Microsoft Office 2003 Professional

I Got It

Well, I bought it last night and should have it in the beginning of February. I'll write a review as soon as it comes in.

I ordered one monday, should have it soon.

The only problems I've read about is you have to clean it out regularly for the dust and stuff so it runs normal temp and the fans don't get to loud. Other then that I couldn't find computer specific problems, just isolated ones.

I guess I'll know more when I get it though.

I have had mine for about six months now and absolutely love it, but it can get pretty warm.

You guys should have configured with the least amount of RAM possible. I got 2 GB on NewEgg (sorry for saying eBay before) for under $200. I originally made the mistake of configuring my zd8000CTO with 1GB, but I could have shaved off almost $250-$300 if I would have done that.

I have the SAME exact setup, you will love it

You will love it while it works

Great machine as a desktop replacement and you dont use it too often for mobile use.(lousy battery life).God help you when it breaks.Been involved in the electronics & computer business for over 30 yrs and HP's service is the worst I have ever experienced. Unit worked well for the first 3 months then disaster. This unit had been out of service for 7 weeks. 3 motherbords, 1 hard drive,1 memory module an Ac adaptor later, it is backup and running for 48 hrs.Yes I plug in to a good UPS and it is not used for mobile, sits on a desktop with good ventilation around it.Be very carefull that if you get it repaired that they replace parts with equal performance. They tried to sub 4200 rpm HD twice instead of 5400 rpm HD and tried to sub DDR 400 mem instead of DDR 533 that came with machine. When I mentioned contract law and fraud in a letter to HP CEO(Mark Hurd). parts appeared at my doorstep with out warning or explanation. I have replaced the parts so far so good.
PS The screen is gorgeous with no dead pixels.

Final Saga

Well the unit ran till Feb 8 2006,when another motherboard fried. No there is no static charges running loose in my work area. Packed the unit up went back to where I bought it and 5 min later got a complete refund (kudos to future shoppe in West Van B.C.) Bought a new dual core Centrino from Toshiba. In the end it turned out O.K. for me but what a frustating time.

zd8000 DVD problems

I can not save or back up files to a RW CD. when doing so I keep getting the message to insert a RW CD or DVD and when I do it still does not work ?

What software are you using? I stopped using the Sonic suite sampler that came with it because of some other problems. But still, you shouldl be able to see the Drive. So is it that the computer can't see the drive, or is it that the software doesn't know what to do with the drive after seeing it?
